BOGO FREE GAME OF BOWLING for donating to Goodwill "Bowling for Jobs" Campaign 2/1 - 3/6

METRO DETROITERS “BOWLING FOR JOBS” AND “DONATING FOR JOBS” WITH GOODWILL INDUSTRIES OF GREATER DETROIT

Supporters receive coupon for buy one game of bowling, get one free at 10 Metro Detroit bowling centers

WHAT:   Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit and Blue Ribbon Bowling Centers invite Metro Detroiters to “Bowl for Jobs” and “Donate for Jobs” at locations in nine area cities. Each location will accept monetary donations and gently used clothing or other items from Tuesday, February 1, 2011 through Sunday, March 6, 2011. The best donated items will be among those sold at Goodwill’s new flagship upscale resale store in Canton, Mich. (41937 Ford Rd.).

Every donor will receive a coupon for one free game of bowling with the purchase of another game.

Participating centers include: Beech Lanes in Redford, Cherry Hill Lanes in Dearborn Heights, Drakeshire Lanes in Farmington Hills, Luxury Lanes in Ferndale, Mayflower Lanes in Redford, Novi Bowl in Novi, Sunnybrook Lanes in Sterling Heights, Thunderbird Lanes in Troy, Westland Bowl in Westland and Woodland Lanes in Livonia.

Each of the participating centers also will raise funds for the campaign through 50/50 raffles during league bowling. Donation and raffle activities supporting Goodwill are in conjunction with Blue Ribbon Bowling Centers league “St. Patrick’s Pot o’ Gold Tournament.”

WHY:    
All donations support the employment training and education programs of Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit, the only organization in Southeast Michigan dedicated solely to helping local people overcome employment challenges and earn jobs.

Living for the (FREE) Weekend in Metro Detroit- July 16th - July 18th

Here is a highlight of the FREE activities you can do this weekend in the metro Detroit area and beyond:

Wayne State will have their weekly FREE Planetarium Show in the lower level of the Old Main Building on the corner of Cass and Warren. The show is called "Wonders of the Universe".


Go downtown on the beautiful Detroit River Walk for the first concert in the FREE Rockin' on the Riverfront Series with Rocker Dave Mason. The concert starts at 8pm and remember to bring your own chair. 
Do you know what only happens 3 times per year?  FREE Admission to the Henry Ford Museum.Thanks to the generosity of Target, admission to the Museum and parking are free during Target Family Days. Explore the greatest collection ever assembled documenting the American Experience.  So drive on over to Dearborn on Friday with the whole family for this great FREE event.


Also on Friday, the Detroit Institute of Art will have free admission after 3pm and a FREE concert at 4pm by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.  FREE DIA and FREE DSO all in one night? How cool!


On Friday and Saturday nights will be the Ren Cen 4 "Over 21"Movie Night Night which includes Appetizers and a Movie for only $9 when You Click here while supplies last.

On Friday and Saturday is the  FREE CircusFit® event at Farmington Founders Festival.  Children of all ages will have the chance to learn the FUNdamentals of fitness alongside professional Ringling clowns, and will learn how to take an action-packed approach to healthy living. CircusFit® activities include juggling, jump rope, balance beam, hula hoop and more.


All weekend, you can help Claddagh Irish Pub in Livonia"Stock the Pantry" and get FREEBIES in return.  The Stock the Pantry Rally benefits local food banks. Donate nonperishable food items and receive coupons for FREE desserts or appetizers.  Yum!


All weekend, “Shop, Rock & Stroll” (and Grab Bargains) in Downtown Milford.


On Saturday, don't forget the FREE Concert at 12 Mile Crossing in Novi - Trio Organic will be entertaining for the crowd on jazz organ, guitar, and drums.  Remember to bring your own chair.

Also on Saturday, head to the Detroit Main Library for the FREE Author Talk at 4pm with ReShonda Tate Billingsley, RSVP requested.  Ms. Billingsley will talk about her new book, "Holy Rollers" with a book signing and refreshments to follow.



On Sunday, remember to go downtown to the  FREE DSO Concert of Colors at Orchestra Hall  The Concert of Colors is metro Detroit’s free diversity-themed music festival, with returning artists, conductor Tito Muñoz and virtuoso musician Simon Shaheen.  The music starts at 3:45pm.


Did you know there is FREE Admission to the Detroit Historical Museum on Sunday from 1-4pm?  It's a celebration of Detroit's 309th birthday so go on down to get some FREE cake and sing Happy Birthday Detroit!

Also on Sunday is the FREE Mural Arts Family Day at MOCAD from Noon-4pm.   You will be working with two experienced mural artists, Kathy Leisen and Taurus Burns who will facilitate the project, transforming the MOCAD fence into a community piece of art.  Remember to bring your camera to get photos of the masterpiece!

FREE CircusFit® event at Farmington Founders Festival July 15-17

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® invite kids to get CircusFit® at the Farmington Founders Festival July 15-17


With summer in full swing, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® want to remind kids and parents the importance of staying active with an invitation to take part in free interactive CircusFit® events July 15-17 at the Downtown Farmington Founders Festival.

Children of all ages will have the chance to learn the FUNdamentals of fitness alongside professional Ringling clowns, and will learn how to take an action-packed approach to healthy living. CircusFit® activities include juggling, jump rope, balance beam, hula hoop and more.

Each child who participates will receive Ringling Bros. goodies while supplies last and will have the chance to meet and greet some of the clowns.
CircusFit® presentations will take place at the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® Kids Stage on Main Street at the municipal parking lot behind the Farmington Public Library.

The free 45-minute CircusFit® events are scheduled for:
· Thursday, July 15 at 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
· Friday, July 16 at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
· Saturday, July 17 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Additional circus-themed activities will take place all day at the ‘Meijer Go Playground’ during the festival.

CircusFit® is a national fitness program that encourages America’s youth to lead healthy, active lifestyles by combining the fun of circus skills with stretching, strength building and aerobic exercises. Lessons are designed to motivate kids to get up and move with games and activities that are more play than work. Free fitness plans and activities are available at www.circusfit.com.
