FREE Community Open House on 4/26 at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland features chair massages, prizes

New South Patient Tower...
Community Open House has fun for the entire family...

Join staff, friends, community leaders and others to celebrate the completion of St. Joseph Mercy Oakland's new, state-of-the-art South Patient Tower during a Community Open House from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2014.

Guests can explore the eight-story tower that features 204 spacious, private rooms and learn about the cutting-edge patient-centered technology, collectively known as the Intelligent Care System. During the event, guests can view the new Healing Arts Program, featuring the works of renowned Michigan artists that is designed to create a calming and restorative environment and promote the healing of body, mind and spirit.

Light fare and refreshments and live music will be provided, as well as FREE chair massages, health screenings, prizes and giveaways for all to enjoy. Entertainment for children includes face painting and a meet and greet with Paws, the Detroit Tigers mascot.

National jazz star Alexander Zonjic and Friends present, Zonjic Meets Motown, a musical celebration of Spring, with special guests Serieux performing its Motown Temptation Tribute and the Motor City Horns. This unique free concert will take place in the Ravitz Foundation Main Atrium at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital, 6777 W. Maple, in West Bloomfield, Sunday, March 23, at 2 p.m.

The celebratory concert will present an exciting blend of the smooth sounds of contemporary jazz with everyone’s favorite, the Motown Sound! The audience is bound to be up on their feet and dancing when they hear the downbeat.

Flutist Alexander Zonjic is a jazz favorite across the country for his cool jazz grooves and exciting shows. He has shared the stage with such greats as Kenny G, Jeff Lorber and Keiko Matsui. He currently hosts a syndicated radio show called Alexander Zonjic from A to Z that airs on Canadian radio and WVMV’s HD2 Channel. He won the 2010 Album of the Year and Broadcaster of the Year at the Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards. In addition to performing in one hundred concerts a year, he is the artistic director for numerous music festivals.

Serieux is a Detroit-based, traditional soul vocal group that was founded in 1998 by Larry Griffin, Valenica Taylor, Donovan Johnson (Musical Director) and Robert Grande (Road Manager) to recreate the style of classic soul groups like the Temptations, the Four Tops and the Manhattans. Splitting their time principally between Detroit and Las Vegas, Serieux has opened for the likes of Earth, Wind and Fire, The Whispers and other major acts. They've also performed in a Motown Musical "Come and get these Memories" with Martha Reeves and played the Temptations in the play Marvin, My Brother - The Marvin Gaye Story.

The Motor City Horns are among Detroit's most versatile musicians. Individually, MCH members have worked with a variety of artists, bands, and orchestras including: Justin Timberlake, The Temptations and The Four Tops. As a group, they have joined forces with Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band (2006 – 2007 Face The Promise Tour), as well as Clarence Clemons and the Temple of Soul as well as Alexander Zonjic

National jazz star Alexander Zonjic and Friends present a spirited musical celebration of the season, featuring special guests, Testimony and Barbara Ogar and her Student Flute Choir, playing in the Ravitz Foundation Main Atrium at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital, 6777 W. Maple in West Bloomfield, Sunday, December 15, 2013 at 2 p.m.

The festive FREE concert will present an exciting blend of holiday classics, jazz, blues, classic and gospel music including the unique sound of a full flute orchestra.

Flutist Alexander Zonjic is a jazz favorite across the country for his cool jazz grooves and exciting shows. He has shared the stage with such greats as Kenny G, Jeff Lorber and Keiko Matsui. He currently hosts a syndicated radio show called Alexander Zonjic from A to Z that airs on Canadian radio and WVMV’s HD2 Channel. He won the 2010 Album of the Year and Broadcaster of the Year at the Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards. Flutist Barbara Ogar is the director of the 30 Member Flute Choir comprised of flutists ranging in age from 10 years to over 30 years. Under Ogar’s expert direction, the delightful choir is a crowd favorite, presenting a full array of flute music ranging from holiday pop standards to the classics. Ogar is the Assistant Masterclass Coordinator for the Sir James Galway International Masterclass and Convention held each summer in Lucerne, Switzerland.

Testimony, the inspiring five women singing group, charges the hall with excitement, combining gospel, jazz, blues and pop influences in their uplifting songs.

The concert is part of the Hospital’s Healing Arts Program Music Series.

Legendary saxophonist Marion Meadows has been playing his special brand of sweet and funky jazz since the1990’s, establishing a worldwide reputation for cool sophistication. While studying classical music at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, Meadows set his sights on jazz and began a career as a noted sideman before launching his solo career with recordings like Forbidden Fruit, Body Rhythm and the noted Another Side of Midnight. He was a member of the New York avant-garde band called the Aboriginal Music Society. His latest releases the Heads Up recordings including In Deep and Players Club and Dressed to Chill have been well received by his ever growing and always loyal fans.

National jazz star, Alexander Zonjic and his award winning band along with special guests, Detroit’s Queen of the Blues, Thornetta Davis and vocalist Royce The Voice will perform a FREE Valentine’s Concert for the public in the beautiful Ravitz Foundation Main Atrium of Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 17.

This musical celebration of love will feature a unique combination of jazz, blues, R & B, and popular standards for an elegant and exciting salute to Valentine’s Day.

The concert is part of the hospital’s Healing Arts Program.

Flutist Alexander Zonjic is a jazz favorite across the country for his cool jazz grooves and exciting shows. He has shared the stage with such greats as Earl Klugh, Kirk Whalum and Angela Bofill. He currently hosts a syndicated radio show called Alexander Zonjic from A to Z that airs on Canadian radio and WVMV’s HD2 Channel. He won the 2010 Album of the Year Broadcaster of the Year at the Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards. In addition to performing in one hundred concerts a year, he is the artistic director for numerous music festivals.

Davis, known as Detroit’s Queen of the Blues, is legendary for her big, soulful voice and breathtaking interpretations of blues, soul, R & B and pop classics. She has opened for legendary blues and R & B greats including Ray Charles, Gladys Knight , Etta James, Buddy Guy and Bonnie Raitt and has been a regular member of the Kid Rock tour. She has won over 20 Detroit Music Awards and in 2001 was inducted into the Detroit Music Hall of Fame.

Royce is the former lead singer for the Great Duke Ellington Orchestra and is known for his elegant musical stylings, power ballads and exciting stage presence. He is a Motor City Music Awards recipient.

FREE Hearing Loss ‘Lunch and Learn’ May 17 at University Physician Group, Rochester

Wayne State University Physician Group’s Hearing and Balance Center and the nonprofit Lions Hearing Center of Michigan will host a FREE “Lunch and Learn” on May 17, 2012  from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Crittenton Hospital Conference Center, 1101 W. University Drive, in Rochester Hills.

This event is FREE and the public is welcome and encouraged to attend.  A light lunch will be served.

Hearing loss, symptoms of hearing loss, hearing health and advances in hearing technology will be discussed. Space is limited. Please call 248-218-5589 to reserve a spot.

The concert is part of the Hospital’s Healing Arts Program.

The festive FREE concert will present an entertaining blend of jazz, blues and gospel music featuring the vocal group, Men of Grace and the vocal stylings of soloist Athena Jackson along with Zonjic and his award winning band.

Flutist Alexander Zonjic is a jazz favorite across the country for his cool jazz grooves and exciting shows. He has shared the stage with such greats as Earl Klugh, Kirk Whalum and Angela Bofill. He currently hosts a syndicated radio show called Alexander Zonjic from A to Z that airs on Canadian radio and WVMV’s HD2 Channel. He won the 2010 Album of the Year and Broadcaster of the Year at the Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards. In addition to performing in one hundred concerts a year, he is the artistic director for numerous music festivals.

The unique Men of Grace group performs everything from blues to jazz to gospel with emphasis on vocal harmony. Its repertoire includes standards and original music with arrangements influenced by many musical genres. The award winning eight member group consists of men who are currently in or have completed the one year rehabilitation program of Grace Centers of Hope. It was formed in 1999 as a musical ministry of Grace Gospel Fellowship in Pontiac, Michigan. Since then, The Men of Grace has recorded seven CDs and has toured the country performing for U.S. Presidents, Fortune 500 companies, professional sports teams, churches and synagogues of every size and denomination and nearly every Cracker Barrel east of the Mississippi.

Athena Johnson is a talented song stylist who adds warmth and her special interpretations to old standards and the latest contemporary jazz arrangements.

FREE Holiday Jazz Concert with Alexander Zonjic at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital 12/11 Noon

Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital presents Alexander Zonjic’s Pipers’ FREE Holiday Concert

National jazz star Alexander Zonjic brings his Pipers’ Holiday Concert to a new and unique venue,Henry’s Café at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital, 6777 W. Maple in West Bloomfield, Sunday, December 11 from noon to 2 p.m.

The festive FREE concert will present an exciting blend of blues, holiday classics and all that jazz, featuring Zonjic and his award winning band, Detroit blues diva Thornetta Davis and the 30 member Barbara Ogar Flute Choir, in a thrilling performance for the whole family.

Henry’s café serves fresh, healthful gourmet selections and concert goers will be able to purchase brunch and other refreshments during the free concert.

Flutist Alexander Zonjic is a jazz favorite across the country for his cool jazz grooves and exciting shows. He has shared the stage with such greats as Earl Klugh, Kirk Whalum and Angela Bofill. He currently hosts a syndicated radio show called Alexander Zonjic from A to Z that airs on Canadian radio and WVMV’s HD2 Channel. He won the 2010 Album of the Year and Broadcaster of the Year at the Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards. In addition to performing in one hundred concerts a year, he is the artistic director for numerous music festivals.

Thornetta Davis, known as Detroit’s Queen of the Blues, is legendary for her big, soulful voice and breathtaking interpretations of blues, soul, R & B and pop classics. She has opened for legendary blues and R & B greats including Ray Charles, Gladys Knight , Etta James, Buddy Guy and Bonnie Raitt and has been a regular member of the Kid Rock tour. She has won over 20 Detroit Music Awards and in 2001 was inducted into the Detroit Music Hall of Fame.

Flutist Barbara Ogar is the director of the 30 Member Flute Choir comprised of flutists ranging in age from 10 years to over 30 years. Under Ogar’s expert direction, the delightful choir is a crowd favorite, presenting a full array of flute music ranging from holiday pop standards to the classics. Ogar is the Assistant Masterclass Coordinator for the Sir James Galway International Masterclass and Convention held each summer in Lucerne, Switzerland.

Alexander Zonjic’s Pipers’ Holiday Concert is part of the Healing Arts Program of Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital.

Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital (HFWH) invites the public to attend it’s fall “Hot Topics,” an ongoing series of free seminars on important health topics featuring our physicians and medical experts.

Registration begins at 6 p.m. and presentations start at 6:30 p.m. at HFWH, 2333 Biddle Ave., Wyandotte. For those who attend, light refreshments will be provided.

Hot Topic: Atrial Fibrillation – Don't let your shortness of breath go unnoticed. Learn about the signs and treatment options of the most common type of abnormal heart rhythm, atrial fibrillation, from Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital expert Dr. Arfaat Khan.

Henry Ford Presents FREE Health Symposium on 8/6

The second annual Dr. Karen Thompson-Cardwell Health Symposium will be held 10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., Saturday Aug. 6, at the Peace Baptist Church, 13450 Goddard in Detroit.

The Symposium honors Dr. Thompson-Cardwell, who was a Henry Ford Health System physician, humanitarian, and community activist.

The FREE event includes lectures, food and exercise demonstrations, health screenings provided by Henry Ford health care practitioners, and much more.

Dr. Kimberlydawn Wisdom, senior vice president, Community Health and Equity, and chief wellness officer, Henry Ford Health System, is the keynote speaker.

In honor of Dr. Karen Thompson-Cardwell, the inaugural “KTC Woman of Distinction” Award will be presented to a woman who has demonstrated citizenship and volunteerism.

FREE Grand Opening Celebration of the Henry Ford Self-health Center 5/26 1-7pm Woodhaven

Henry Ford Opens Unique Health Center in Woodhaven


Guests will discover how to enhance their independence at a unique facility where health products and services are available in a home-like environment.

See some fresh new ideas on how to create a safe and healthy home and try the Wii interactive video game, which is used for movement therapy.

The celebration will offer guided tours, light refreshments, prizes and giveaways.  Guests will be able to talk with a self-health coach and learn how the new center can help people of all ages with chronic conditions. 

Clients at the center are able to use the free services of a trained self-health coach, who works with them on an ongoing basis to help them understand and maintain treatment plans and a healthy lifestyle.

The Henry Ford Self-health Center is located at 23400 Allen Rd., in Woodhaven.
