FREE Admission for Manufacturing Day at the Michigan Science Center on 10/5 - REGISTRATION REQUIRED
The Michigan Science Center (MiSci) is ready to inspire curious minds of all ages with new programming this October. For more information about any of these activities, visit Mi-Sci.org.
Manufacturing Day at MiSci – MiSci will have a full slate of activities to celebrate Manufacturing Day, a national movement meant to inspire the next generation of manufacturers. Manufacturing Day supports hundreds of manufacturers across the country and invites students, parents, teachers and job seekers to see the industry in action, discover career opportunities and discuss the importance of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) as it relates to the industry’s future. Manufacturing Day at MiSci is sponsored by Burns McDonnell and includes:
- “Energy on the Move” activities that will educate students about engineering careers (facilitated by engineers from Burns McDonnell)
- Manufacturing scavenger hunt
- Make and take flashlights and a conversation about invention and innovation, facilitated by representatives from the United States Patent and Trademark Office
- Presentation by Keith Young, founder of Ecotek, a science research organization made up of future scientists and engineers from major urban centers

FREE Admission at the Michigan Science Center on 9/22 - REGISTRATION REQUIRED
To celebrate NASA’s 60th anniversary, the Michigan Science Center (MiSci) is making STEM accessible to all audiences by offering free general admission on Saturday, September 22, 2018 from 10am to 5pm.
Since its inception by Congress in 1958, NASA has accomplished many great scientific and technological feats in both air and space. NASA is a leading force in scientific research and stimulating public interest in aerospace exploration, as well as science and technology in general.
This free general admission includes access to MiSci’s space exhibits, such as the Nike Smoke Sounding Rocket, the Ares-1 rocket and the Saturn-1 rocket (all made by NASA). Visitors will also have access to more than 250 amazing hands-on exhibits, live stage shows, Kids Town gallery, STEM Playground space and more.
Additionally, planetarium tickets will be available for purchase at the box office. The planetarium features a new live show – “Our Place in a Galaxy Far, Far Away” – that takes visitors on an exciting tour of our place in the Universe and compares our solar system and galaxy to those far, far away.

Summer may signal the end of school for Detroit-area students but learning never stops at the Michigan Science Center (MiSci)! To celebrate Family STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) Day, MiSci, with support from Ford Motor Company Fund, is making fun, engaging and educational activities accessible for all by offering free general admission on Friday, July 13.
Family STEAM Day special activities include:
· Enjoy our “explosive” Kaboomistry live stage show and learn where the fireworks you see this time of year get their colors!
· Check out Spark!Lab where we provide opportunities for the whole family to explore their inventive creativity. Take our challenge to invent an alien or build a droid!
· Make your own slime in BASF Kids’ Lab with Playful Polymers.
· Learn to fold paper airplanes and fly them in our STEM Playground.
· Explore Kids Town with our “out of this world” activities and crafts! Make and launch your own rockets, make a model of the solar system and more!
Additionally, general admission includes 250+ hands-on exhibits, live stage shows and much more. Planetarium and 4D theater tickets will be available for purchase at the box office.

FREE ADMISSION to Michigan Science Center on 6/2 to celebrate Cool Jobs Program - RSVP REQUIRED
On June 2 and 3, programming from New York’s World Science Festival will make its debut at the Michigan Science Center. Now in its 11th year, the World Science Festival takes science out of the laboratory and into the streets, parks, museums, and galleries of cities around the world.
With support from Ford Motor Company Fund, the philanthropic arm of Ford Motor Company, the Michigan Science Center will offer free general admission on June 2, including free access to a live stream event of the World Science Festival’s “Cool Jobs” program.
Guests will meet scientists whose jobs often take them out of the lab, including a forensic scientist, a venomous snake-loving herpetologist, a NASA engineer who lands spacecraft on Mars, and inventors who are changing the future of sports. The program will be shown live from New York in the Toyota Engineering 4D Theater from 3-4 p.m. Seating is limited and is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Free general admission is available with pre-registration, which can be done at Mi-Sci.org/cool-jobs
Free general admission includes 250+ hands-on exhibits, live stage shows, Spark!Lab from the Smithsonian, Kids Town gallery, STEM Playground space and more. Planetarium and 4D theater tickets will be available for purchase.
“The Michigan Science Center is excited to explore these amazing science careers with our guests,” said Dr. Tonya Matthews, president and CEO of the Michigan Science Center. “We aim to make STEM accessible to everyone and to inspire curious minds of all ages.”
World Science Festival programming continues at the Michigan Science Center on June 3, 1:30-2:30 p.m. in the Toyota Engineering 4D Theater. With paid general admission, guests will experience a live stream of the Flame Challenge program, a contest that challenges scientists all over the world to explain a basic scientific concept simply and clearly. Live from New York, this program will introduce viewers to the winners of the challenge who will present their award-winning entries. Paid general admission to the Michigan Science Center is $14 for adults and $11 for children. More information is available at Mi-Sci.org.
