FREE Mural Arts Family Day at MOCAD 7/18 Noon-4pm

MURAL ARTS Family Day @ the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD)

Date: Sunday, July 18, 2010
Time: 12:00pm - 4:00pm
Location: MOCAD

Join the MOCAD in their collaborative family day where your participation will be crucial in making the dumpster fence more beautiful than ever before. You will be working with two experienced mural artists, Kathy Leisen and Taurus Burns who will facilitate the project, transforming the fence into a community piece of art.

Katherine Leisen is an artist, musician, and curator out of Detroit, Michigan. She is known for her project The Lot, an empty neighborhood spot opened up for community members and artists to appreciate, and for her participation in the local band Glass Rock. Katherine Leisen has also curated shows in New York and Michigan, and has been featured in New American Paintings Magazine.

Taurus Burns is also a Michigan native, out of Kalamazoo. He is known for his community projects, which includes a mural in Birmingham and a painted Tiger statue for the collaborative project Tiger Town. He has been named “Best Local Artist to Collect” by Hour magazine and has been featured in several exhibitions all over the state.

Don’t miss your chance to interact with two awesome artists on this special day at the Museum!

Café will be open as well for those hard-working, mural-creating, food-seeking artists!
