TEACHERS: Field Trip Assistance Grants for the DIA still available - NEW DEADLINE 1/13/2012

Target supports Detroit Institute of Arts Field Trips for 8,000 Students

One Hundred schools received grants; limited funds still available

Thanks to a generous grant from Target, 8000 students in grades three through 12 can look forward to a field trip to the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) early next year. One hundred schools in southeast Michigan that otherwise might not have been able to afford a museum visit will have their admission and transportation costs reimbursed.

“I know we are not alone in expressing our appreciation for Target’s generosity that directly benefits school children,” said Graham W. J. Beal, DIA director. “For many students, this is their first exposure to some of the world’s greatest art, and will, I hope, make them want to come back again.”

There are still some funds available for admission and/or transportation costs for a limited number of self-guided visits to the museum in January, February and March 2012. Grants are available for schools in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb and Washtenaw counties for students in grades three through 12. Teachers need to apply online by Friday, Jan. 13, 2012 at www.dia.org/learn/teachers.aspx.

Decisions will be made based on geographic and grade level distribution. Title One schools will receive additional consideration. Applicants will be notified about awards by email the following week. For questions or more information, email studenttours@dia.org.

TEACHERS: Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) offers Field Trip Assistance Grants - DEADLINE 11/15

Schools can apply for help with admission and transportation costs to DIA by Nov. 15

Thanks to a generous grant from Target, the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) is able to provide assistance for museum admission and transportation costs for a limited number of school field trips for students in grades three through 12. Teachers must apply for the financial aid by Nov. 15 for museum field trips planned for Jan. through March 2012.

“Target’s initiative is especially welcome in the current economic climate,” said Graham W. J. Beal, DIA director. “By providing financial assistance to schools that might not otherwise be able to afford field trips to the DIA, Target is helping us introduce thousands of children to the wonders of art.”

This is the second year Target has provided the field trip grant to the DIA. Last year the museum was able to serve close to 7,000 students in 88 schools in the metro Detroit area.

Teachers can apply for assistance by going to http://bit.ly/targetgrant and choosing either “set up a guided visit” or “set up a self-guided visit.” The application must be submitted by Nov. 15. The words “Target Grant Request” should be entered into the “Special Needs” box on the form.

Awards will be made to reflect a wide geographic and grade level distribution. Title One schools will receive additional consideration. Applicants will be notified about awards by email before Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011.

The W.K. Kellogg Foundation's Woodrow Wilson Michigan Teaching Fellowship is designed for college seniors, recent college graduates, and career changers who have a background in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics and would like to become teachers in high-need Michigan secondary schools, including Detroit.  The Teaching Fellowship includes:

I would like to note that since the $30,000 is a stipend, the receipent would have to pay taxes on the money.

If getting $30,000 to complete your Master's degree and making a real impact with students sounds like something you would like to do, then find out more by reading the Woodrow Wilson Michigan Teaching Fellowship FAQ.

Enjoy!
