REVIEW: #DisneyOnIce #TreasureTrove at the Palace of Auburn Hills - Cute, Classic Disney!

Disclosure: Feld Entertainment provided media review tickets for me and my son to attend the opening night performance of Disney on Ice Treasure Trove ...

Disney on Ice Treasure Trove is Classic Disney Fun!!!

Thursday night, my son and I had the pleasure of attending the opening night performance of Disney on Ice Treasure Trove at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

Most Disney On Ice shows start with mini performances of Disney stories in the first half and then a lengthy performance of one Disney story for the entire second half of the show. "Treasure Trove" does this in reverse with longer story performances in the first half and then a lot of short Disney stories after intermission.

We enjoyed a long performance of Peter Pan in between short performances of Disney classics like The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Rapunzel (Tangled), Toy Story, Addadin, Sleeping Beauty, Alice in Wonderland, and The Princess and the Frog.

Treasure Trove has a little something for everyone so this is a Disney on Ice show that everyone in the family can enjoy.

ENTERTAINMENT: Disney on Ice Princesses & Heroes opens to cheering Metro Detroit fans

I received complementary opening night tickets from Feld Entertainment as part of their Insider Program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Crowds cheered Mickey and Minnie like rock stars...
Little girls from the audience loved Minnie Mouse...
Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen get down New Orleans Style..
Princess Rapunzel and Flynn skate, minus the fry pan :)
Olaf, Elsa, Anna and the entire Disney crew were treated like Rock Stars on opening night of Disney on Ice...

Last night, I had the pleasure of attending the opening night for Disney on Ice Princesses and Heroes at the Palace of Auburn Hills. The entire evening was a Disney fest featuring Disney Princesses and their Heroes in ice dancing scenes from all our beloved Disney movies.

The show opened to cheering crowds as Mickey and Minnie took to the ice to tell us about their favorite Disney Princesses and Heroes. And each mention of a Princess and a Hero sparks a scene from their movie to appear. The show features the stories of ten of our favorite Disney Princesses.

Princess Jasmine with Aladdin open the show meeting in the marketplace and finding a whole new world..

We all know the story of Snow White and Prince Florian along with the adorable 7 Dwarfs who "Hi Ho Hi Ho" there way into everyone's heart. And Princess Aurora (Sleeping Beauty) and Prince are always crowd favorites.

The story of Ariel (The Little Mermaid) and Prince Eric is all the better when the song "Under the Sea" is song by the entire crowd as you can tell by my Instagram video above...

Princess Rapunzel and Flynn Rider along with Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen had all the kids jumping out of their seats to dance along with the couples. And who does not love Belle (Beauty) and Princess Adam (the Beast).

MOVIE REVIEW: Disney's Maleficent in 3D + FREE Behind the Scenes Movie iBook #EvilIsComplicated

Disclosure: My son and I received a media invitation to attend an advance screening of Disney's Maleficent

Evil is complicated... and pretty humorous

On Wednesday, my son and I had the pleasure of going to the AMC 20 in Livonia, mI for an advance screening of Disney's new movie Maleficent, staring Angelina Jolie. The entire audience was treated to pairs of horns to get us in a nice evil mood and my son could not wait to put on his pair.

I really did not know what to expect from this movie. Would it be scary? Would be violent? After all Angelina Jolie plays some pretty kick-butt, take-no-prisoner roles.

What I found was a beautiful to watch 3D fairy tale full of complicated drama,  shocking betrayal, fierce revenge, unexpected humor, and touching redemption. It was a totally modern spin on everything that you think about fairy tale love.

The story opens with a child-aged Maleficent who is a beautiful, happy and very caring fairy in a land that is so magical that I could not believe everything that I was seeing in my 3D glasses. Maleficent even as a child has powers that are off the charts, but she uses them for good and to help her people.  Her land borders a kingdom of humans who know better than to attempt to cross over into Maleficent's mysterious land.

But one day a boy does cross over and he and Maleficent form a friendship that lasts for many years. Until a betrayal happens that changes friends into mortal enemies and causes everything to change for the worst in both the human kingdom and the fairy kingdom.

A bitter and wronged Maleficent is not someone that you want to meet in a dark alley. And Angelina Jolie played the role brilliantly. She is not only scary good, but also scary funny, At times the entire audience just burst into laughter at some of her one liners. The way she played the role reminded me of the way Julia Roberts played the evil queen in the movie Mirror, Mirror.  But Angelina Jolie played this role so much better since Maleficent is neither pure evil nor pure good - she is very complicated and she takes all of us on a journey through happiness, love, pain, anger, revenge, and redemption.

There is plenty of action in this movie with war battles and fight scenes that include fantasy warrior creatures and a fire breathing dragon. The 3D in the movie is well worth the money in my opinion since it makes the land of the fairies that much more magical. My son and I loved the entire movie. And I personally would love to see it again.

Maleficent opens in theaters today, Friday, May 30, 2014.  It runs 1 hour and 37 minutes and is rated PG for sequences of fantasy action and violence, including frightening images.

REVIEW: Disney on Ice is a Celebration of Cultures and Fun for All Ages!

Celebrations abound with Disney Ice Show….

Last Thursday night, my son and I went to see "Disney on Ice Let's Celebrate!" at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Our tickets were given to us courtesy of Feld Entertainment.

The show is narrated by Mickey and Minnie Mouse who introduce Disney characters old and new as they celebrate holidays and travel.

Everyone loved Mickey as Fantasia with the dancing, skating broomsticks - that brought home a lot of childhood memories. My son loved the dance of the Disney villains with Captain Hook from Peter Pan, Cruella de Vil from 101 Dalmatians, and Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas - it was an evilly cool celebration of Halloween with giant cobwebs, cemeteries and all.

The little girls in the audience loved all the Disney Princesses and their Princes helping Minnie to understand true love in time for Valentine's day - my son though was not loving all the Princesses and Princes gazing into each others eyes and was very happy when that part of the show was over :)

Mickey and Minnie even take a tropical vacation where they find Lilo and Stitch of course and other island wonders. I loved Mickey and Minnie on their Asian vacation - it was beautiful, especially Minnie in full kimono. Mickey and Minnie even bring their vacation celebration to New Orleans with all the characters from "The Princess and the Frog."

While the show is the same touring show from the 2010 Disney On Ice season, I loved seeing the Let's Celebrate show again with it's upbeat music, great skating, and Disney characters galore.

Enjoy!

REVIEW: Find the Magic at "Disney on Ice 100 Years of Magic" at the Palace of Auburn Hills

"Disney on Ice 100 Years of Magic" delights in Metro Detroit

Special thanks to Feld Entertainment for supplying complementary media tickets to facilitate this review...

On Thursday night, my son and I joined hundreds of other Metro Detroiters to enjoy "Disney on Ice 100 Years of Magic" at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

This spectacular ice show highlighted special moments from our favorite Disney movies including The Lion King, Pinocchio, The Incredibles, Beauty and the Beast, Mulan, Toy Story, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Finding Nemo and more.

The classic Disney Princesses and their loves along with Minnie and Micky also took to the ice to do a special dance that was a perfect lead in for Sweetest Day weekend. But the newest Disney Princesses - Rapunzel, Tiana, and Merida - they are unfortunately not part of this show.

There was a little something for everyone during the show and kids of all ages were laughing, singing, dancing and enjoying Disney at its best.  There was even a moment in the show that reminded me of the nightly light parade at Disney World.

The show closes out in Metro Detroit on Sunday, October 20th so get your tickets before you miss out. And if you want to enjoy a little taste of the magic from "Disney on Ice 100 Years of Magic", check out my video below of the show's finale...
