12th Annual Canton Color Block Jazz Series Announces Full Musical Lineup and Venues

Get ready to jazz up your summer by attending the 12th annual Canton Color Block Jazz Series. The Canton Color Block Jazz Series is a wonderful family friendly musical event featuring great concerts for the whole family in Canton, Michigan.

Starting Friday July 14th, talented jazz musicians will take center stage at the parking lot of Super Bowl Lanes at 45100 Ford Road.

UPDATE: The 2017 Canton Color Block Jazz Concert Series continues this summer with its remaining five concerts (starting on 7/28) scheduled to take place at a new location in Canton's Heritage Park. These outdoor concerts will now be held Friday evenings through August 25, 2017, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the Heritage Park Amphitheater, located at 1150 S. Canton Center Road, Canton, MI, 48188.

In an effort to offer even larger audiences the chance to experience these free jazz concerts, this popular series has been relocated from the Super Bowl to Canton's Heritage Park.

There are over 300 businesses in the Canton DDA District along Ford Road. It’s like an outdoor mall with retail shopping, department stores, health and other professional services, financial institutions, auto supplies and services, a variety of restaurants, sports and entertainment venues, and hotels. Canton's Ford Road has an established way-finding system with color-coded street light banners for each block along the three mile stretch of the Downtown Development Authority district. New for this year, the color-coded blocks will be celebrated each week of the jazz series with chance to win a prize when you come dressed in the color of the week and various specials will also be offered.

And every week, while supplies last, there will be a commemorative gift for the first 25 people who turn in receipts for a minimum of $25 from a Canton merchant. As always, this event is FREE to the public. 

Each concert begins promptly at 7:00 p.m., but come early to start the night off with dinner at one of the many fine restaurants in the local area or grab some Jazzy Carryout to enjoy during the show.

Six Gardner-White Metro-Detroit locations will host in-store blood drive events, with two additional locations hosting the Red Cross mobile bus in store parking lots. Over the past 15 years, Gardner-White blood drives have collected 6,603 pints of blood, which has helped to save the lives of nearly 20,000 people.

In exchange for giving blood, every blood donor will receive a $50 Gardner-White gift certificate and will also be entered for a chance to win one of eight 51-inch Samsung televisions which will be given away at each blood drive location.

BAGGER DAVE’S BRINGS PRIME RIB RECIPE BURGER TO CANTON, FEB. 15

Bagger Dave’s Burger Tavern, a full-service, ultra-casual restaurant and bar, will celebrate the grand opening of its Canton location (2234 N. Canton Center Road) on Sunday, February. 15 at 11 a.m.

The first 50 customers in the restaurant on February 15th will receive FREE burgers for an entire year. Product is limited to one-per-week per customer.

The 4,755-sq. ft. tavern will feature table service; a full-bar serving 10 beers on draft, as well as wine, craft bourbons, signature drinks and adult shakes; a front patio and 10 large-screen televisions. Approximately 80 local employees will be hired to fill positions at the new restaurant, which will seat 200 patrons.

“As a metropolitan Detroit-based restaurant concept, I am pleased that our newest location is opening in our home region,” said Michael Ansley, president and CEO of Bagger Dave’s. “I know the people of Canton will enjoy our prime rib recipe, fresh ingredients and winning customer service.

At Bagger Dave’s, patrons can create their own fresh and never-frozen prime rib recipe, hormone-free grilled chicken, all-natural turkey or veggie black bean burgers with a choice of 19 Meaningless Free Toppings ® and six premium toppings, including seven cheese choices, custom made sauces, a variety of artisan buns and more.

Disney is coming to Central City Dance & Fitness Center in Canton, MI on the lookout for college students and character performers on October 7th, 2014.

Disney College Program Auditions:

Disney Creative Entertainment is seeking energetic college performers for their Walt Disney World® College Program.

Male and Female performers are needed as world famous Disney Character performers for
“meets and greets” across Disney World Resort with the possible opportunity to perform in Disney parades and events as Disney Character Look-alikes.

Full Time Performer Auditions:

Disney is also seeking performers for FULL TIME Character Performer roles for shows and
parades across Walt Disney World Resort such as, Festival of the Lion King, Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade, and many more!

If you have improvisational skills, Disney is also looking for FULL TIME female Disney Princess Look-alikes to perform with poise and grace.


Auditions will be held on Tuesday, October 7th at 11:30 a.m. at Central City Dance & Fitness Center, 6700 N. Canton Center Road, Canton, MI.

Auditions start promptly at 11:30 a.m. with sign- in required from 11:00-11:30 a.m. Please do not arrive any earlier than 10 a.m.

All performers will learn a simple movement/dance routine. Following this routine, there will be an initial cut. Selected performers will then learn additional dance routines, as well as animation exercises.

Wear comfortable clothing, allowing a full range of movement. Dresses, skirts, tight jeans, flip-flops, or high heel shoes are not recommended.

The audition process can last anywhere from 1 - 6 hours. Be sure to bring bottled water and a snack.

Requirements:

• Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and be authorized to work in the United States.
• College Program applicants must currently be enrolled in college/university taking at least
one class at time of application and audition.
• Full Time applicants must be willing to relocate to the Orlando area, and be available for at least one year of full time work.
• Audition scores are only valid for six months. You must be able to begin work within the next six months in order to attend this audition.
• Advanced registration is not required.

The Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) is providing FREE bus transportation to and from the museum on Saturday, Oct. 11 for Wayne County residents as part of its “County Days,” which provides this service four times per year for residents of Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties.

In additional to the FREE transportation. general admission to the Detroit Institute of Arts (excludes ticketed exhibitions) is FREE for Wayne, Oakland and Macomb county residents.

Visitors can browse the collection, take part in an art-making activity and view the free exhibition Ordinary People by Extraordinary Artists: Works on Paper by Degas, Renoir and Friends.

Shopping and eating are always part of a fun day, and the DIA has plenty of both. Café DIA offers entrees, a decked-out salad bar, grill station, sandwiches and scrumptious desserts. Kresge Court diners can enjoy gourmet snacks, sandwiches, salads and desserts. Both restaurants offer a variety of beverages, including Starbucks coffee, beer and wine. The museum shop carries a selection of art-related items, many of which cannot be found in other area stores.

Join the American Red Cross Blood Drive at Gardner White on Thursday, April 11

The American Red Cross currently has an urgent need for types O negative and B negative blood donations. To help meet the need for blood donations in the Metro Detroit area, Gardner-White is sponsoring a blood drive at their stores on Thursday, April 11, 2013.

Participants who give blood will receive a $50 gift certificate good on their next purchase at any Gardner-White. Plus, each Gardner-White store will have a drawing in which one blood drive participant will win a 51″ HD TV.

Blood Drives will be held on Thursday at the following seven Garden-White store locations:

EMPLOYMENT: Walt Disney World® College Program Auditions 3/17 in Canton

Disney Parks Talent Casting is coming to Canton, MI in search of character performers and candidates for the WDW college program

Talent Auditions are being held on Sunday, March 17th at Central City Dance Center, 6700 N. Canton Center Road, Canton, MI for the Walt Disney World College program. Sign-in is required from 10:30-11:00 a.m., with auditions starting at 11:00 a.m. Late applicants will not be accepted; advance registration is not required.

Disney Parks Talent Casting is seeking energetic college students interested in the Walt Disney World® College program. Applicants must have been enrollled in college/university for at least one semester. For full details on the Disney College program, visit http://cp.disneycareers.com.

Male and female performers are needed to do thousands of guest “meet and greets”, as well as perform in parades, shows, and dances. Female Disney Princess look-a-likes also are being sought after to perform as fully costumed Disney Characters. Also, Full-time applicants for performance roles are being auditioned and could be part of the Disney parks shows such as Festival of the Lion King, or Fantasmic.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and authorized to work in the United States. Applicants must be willing to relocate to Central Florida area and be available for at least one year of full time work.

All performers will learn a simple movement/dance routine. Please wear comfortable clothing, allowing for a full range of movement. Audition scores are only valid for six months. You must be able to begin work within the next six months in order to attend this audition.

The Detroit Symphony Orchestra is performing five (5) FREE concerts in January previewing their Beethoven Festival which occurs February 6-24. The five preview concerts listed below occur in venues throughout metro Detroit.

Hear chamber works by Beethoven performed by Detroit Symphony Orchestra musicians in your neighborhood in January. Then, come to Orchestra Hall in February to hear all nine symphonies performed during the Beethoven Festival!
