My VIP Experience at the 2015 North American International Auto Show #7AutoShow #NAIAS

The Detroit Auto Show is where the Cars are the Stars....

On Thursday night, my son and I were fortunate to attend a Tweet Up during Industry Days at the North American International Auto Show sponsored by Channel 7 News and Specs Howard School of Media Arts. We are part of a group of about 100 Metro Detroiters who received complimentary VIP access to the show to view all the cars and displays up close and personal. After putting on our special Tweetup t-shirts and credentials, we are all set to view the pageantry.

The Ford exhibit was awesome and the Ford GT was the star...
As a Ford employee, you know I had to make a stop at the Ford exhibit where the all new Ford GT was on display and getting lots of attention. The Ford exhibit also has a lot of interactive displays, one of which is a camera that displayed a photo of my son and me on the ceiling (made to look like the sky) of the exhibit for everyone to see.

I could not believe that I was sitting in a $400,000 car! Thank you Bentley....
When we came to the Bentley exhibit, I could not believe that they were allowing people (in groups of 4) to enter the display and sit in the $400,000 cars.  And yes, everything inside and outside of a Bentley is quality to the max.

Best inactive display was from Dodge where the car was the video controller...
If you like interactive displays, one of the best was in the Dodge exhibit were the driving game controller was an actual Dodge Charger!!!

Alfa Romeo has a $10,000,000 car on display!
The Alfa Romeo exhibit pays homage to the past with some classic race cars on display that are worth over 10 million dollars. And yes, there are people standing guard to make sure no one touches these priceless cars.

With so much to see and do, make sure to check it out for yourself during public days at the North American International Auto Show which run from Saturday, January 17th thru Sunday, January 25, 2015.

Check out the NAIAS website for info on tickets and parking

CONTEST: WIN $500 for the Best and Most Creative Reason why #MichiganIsAuto - ENDS 1/23 #NAIAS

I was selected for this sponsored post by HayThereSocialMedia.com. All opinions expressed are my own.

Ford makes engineering transparent at 2011 Detroit Auto Show - photos by Jackie Harper
MICHauto is Giving Away $500 for the Best, Most Creative Reasons Why #MichiganIsAuto...

I have lived in Michigan all of my life and am very proud to be from the Motor City - HOLLA!!!  One thing that I learned from a very early age is how much we love our cars in this state.  When I was a kid, my father would take our photos using a backdrop of his prize Cadillac of the moment. And going to an auto dealership to look at cars was considered entertainment in our family.

That is probably why I love taking my son every year to the North American International Auto Show at Cobo Hall.  Who can resist the cool cars filled with "James Bond"-like technology that are easy on the eye and a pleasure to drive.  In Michigan, the cars are truly the stars and the Detroit Auto Show is where we all go to pay homage to the creativity and engineering genius behind each vehicle.

My son and I hanging at the Chevy Photo Booth at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show

For this post, I had the pleasure of going back in time and finding all the cool photos that I have taken at the North American International Auto Show over the years. From the 2013 show which showcased the oldest surviving car sold by Ford Motor Company back in 1903 - a Model A Rear Entry Tonneau, to the beautiful Dodge Viper from the 2010 show, to the 2011 show where Ford cut a vehicle in half to show us what's really under the hood, I am amazed each year by everything that I see and all the engineering talent that goes into making these awesome products.

And I will always remember the awesome video (see above) of my son at the Ford exhibit during the 2012 Detroit Auto Show where he got to virtually hang out with race car driver Ken Block - can you tell that he had a ball and learned a thing or two about eco-boost technology?

And with the 2015 North American International Auto Show right around the corner  I and my son are looking forward to another awesome event where we learn more and more about why Michigan Is Auto!

Have a great reason why #MichiganIsAuto? Time to share it!

As the global automotive industry heads to Detroit for the 2015 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), MICHauto – the state’s automotive accelerator – is using this gathering of industry leaders and stakeholders as a platform to reinforce why Michigan is the epicenter of the auto industry.

From January 12th through January 23rd, MICHauto will award two $500 VISA gift cards to the entry that posts the best, most creative reason why #MichiganIsAuto.

GIVEAWAY: Disney Records The Legacy Collection: The Little Mermaid #disneymusic #enmnetwork (CLOSED)

I received the Little Mermaid Legacy Collection CD as a member of the Entertainment New Media Network. No further compensation was received and all opinions are my own. This post may also contain affiliate links.

It's the soundtrack to so many people's lives....

One of my favorite events every year without fail is to attend the "Disney on Ice" show when it comes to Metro Detroit at the Palace of Auburn Hills.  I think Disney on Ice shows are the closest way to experience "The Most Wonderful Place on Earth" without going to the Disney theme parks.

Loading
#Detroit is loving "Under the Sea" from The Little Mermaid at #Disney on Ice Princesses and Heroes #freeismylife #DisneyOnIceInsider #deardetroit #kids #family

My favorite thing about the shows is the music and my favorite songs are those from the story "The Little Mermaid."  I don't care how bad a mood I am in, whenever I hear the song "Under the Sea" it always puts me in a wonderful mood.  I don't know how that one song has so much power, but it just makes me happy every time I hear it.

So when Entertainment New Media Network offered me the chance to review a complimentary copy of a new Legacy Collection Little Mermaid CD, I jumped at the chance to get my hands on this special edition item containing all the music from The Little Mermaid.

Late last year, Walt Disney Records released "The Legacy Collection: The Little Mermaid" which is a 2 Disk CD with all the music from the movie along with a special hardbound book that chronicles how the songs were developed for the movie, the lyrics, special movie artwork, and fun movie facts.

The Little Mermaid collection features the songs and score from the film by Oscar®-winning composer Alan Menken and lyricist Howard Ashman on Disc One, twelve work tapes and song demos performed by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman on Disc Two, and a collectible 20-page booklet. Also included are liner notes by Alan Menken, John Musker (Co-writer, Director and Producer, “The Little Mermaid”), and Chris Montan (President of Walt Disney Music).

I loved all the fun facts that I learned from reading the booklet. Did you know...

Animation art work from the book included in the collection
- The Little Mermaid marked the end of an era in how Disney Animated films were made. It was the last feature animated film at Disney to use traditional hand inked and painted cels.

- The Little Mermaid was the first princess musical to be made at Disney since the 1959 Sleeping Beauty film.

- The 9 songs heard in The Little Mermaid were written and fine tuned over a period of 18 months.

- The character, Sebastian the Crab (who I just adore), was purposely given a Caribbean flavor so that the song writers could have a whole range of calypso and reggae styles to play with in the music.

When I put in the first of the two CD's, I was enchanted with the musical scores and appreciated the melodies all the more after reading the background material on how it was all created.  And to complement Disk One, listening to Disk Two's never before released demos and working tapes from the movie songwriters was like peeking back in time to really understand what went into writing the music that we now all sing without even thinking about it.

“The greatest thing about what we do is create something that works in the moment, but also stands the test of time" says the film's musicial composer Alan Menken. " For the last 25 years, a generation has grown up with ‘The Little Mermaid’ and it has so greatly influenced them. I hear all the time it’s the soundtrack of so many people’s lives, and that’s a thrilling thing.”

So if you are a music lover and love the songs from The Little Mermaid like I do, be sure to check out The Legacy Collection on Walt Disney Records’ newly launched site, Disney Music Emporium (DME) at www.disneymusicemporium.com.

Wendy's knows one sweet way to start the New Year!

Today Wendy’s® announced the official launch of its second annual National Frosty® Key Tag Program. For $1, Wendy’s customers can buy a Frosty Key Tag that gets them a FREE Jr. Frosty with every purchase during 2015, while supplies last.

Got mine!!!
If you follow me on Instagram, then you know that I picked up my key tag last week for $1 and my son is looking forward to a FREE Jr. Frosty with purchase every time we go to Wendy's.

Ninety cents from every dollar of your Key Tag purchase will go to help find families for children in foster care through the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption®.

Last year’s Frosty Key Tag Program raised more than $2.9 million and kicked off a four-part national cause marketing effort for the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption (DTFA). Started by Wendy’s Founder Dave Thomas, who was adopted himself, the DTFA works in communities across the U.S. and Canada to help dramatically increase the number of adoptions for children in foster care.
