Get 50% off at The Salvation Army Thrift Stores for their New Year's Day Sale - 1/1/2018

Donations of gently-used clothing, home goods accepted for 2017 tax deductions, 50 percent off clothing sale to take over 37 metro Detroit family stores, January 1st

The New Year is almost here, and The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC) will open an additional day to accept charitable donations to stock the shelves of its 37 metro Detroit thrift stores. All stores will open 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31 to collect gently used items.

All donations to The Salvation Army are tax deductible. Donate any day before Jan. 1, 2018 to receive a tax receipt that can be applied towards 2017 taxes.

“Historically our thrift stores and donation centers are closed on Sunday, but with New Year’s Eve falling on a Sunday this year, we decided to keep our donation centers open for last minute contributions,” said Rani Gabbara, director of retail operations for The Salvation Army ARC. “The holiday is always a big donation day for us, and we recognize the need to make drop-offs easy and convenient for our supporters.”

Donations of gently used clothing, linens, household appliances, furniture, toys, shoes, purses and house wares are accepted at all Salvation Army thrift store donation centers. For specific hours of your local Salvation Army thrift store donation center, visit semichigan.satruck.org.

To help speed up individual wait-time during the year-end donation rush, management encourages donors to:
· Package gently-used items by type. For example, pack clothing items in a separate bag from housewares.
· Prepare an itemized list of donations in advance, and group the items in your list by type.
· Bring a pen to fill out your tax receipt.
· Try arriving to a donation center in the morning to avoid long lines.

Salvation Army thrift store shoppers will also have a chance to usher in the New Year with great deals or a new wardrobe during The Salvation Army’s annual New Year’s Day sale.

Visit any of the 37 metro Detroit Salvation Army thrift store locations to enjoy 50 percent off clothing, as well as hourly spot sales across several departments, on Monday, Jan 1. Doors will be open at the nonprofit’s 37 thrift stores from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

“What’s truly wonderful about donating and shopping at The Salvation Army thrift stores is that all proceeds benefit our 180-day, residential rehabilitation program designed to help men and women struggling with substance abuse overcome their self-defeating habits,” said Envoy Jacqulynn Idzior, The Salvation Army ARC assistant administrator. “It’s important for the community to know even a small donation or shopping spree is helping save lives.”
