TECH: How about a new Computer Mouse for the Tech Lover on your holiday shopping list? #CBias

Some Innovative and Stylish Computer Mice from Logitech that I love
Upgrade at least one thing on your tech list this holiday season without breaking the bank...

This is going to be one of the best holiday seasons for technology products ever. With the release of new iPads and Macs by Apple, new Kindles by Amazon and new PC's and Slates by Microsoft, there is something at every price point for people looking to upgrade to the newest technology.

I have made a few visits to stores like Best Buy to play with the new Microsoft Windows 8 Touchscreen Ultrabooks and I am loving them. But spending $800 to $1200 for a new tech toy is really not in my budget at this time. So if you are like me and not ready to drop big money on new technology, I know a way to upgrade at least one of your tech products without breaking the bank.

When I am browsing the newest computers and tablets both online and in-store, I also like to check out the newest technology available for upgrading my computer mouse. The computer mouse has got to be the most used and overlooked tech product. After all, most people, including me, just use the mouse that comes bundled with a new computer.

I have some very stylish computer mice for home use, but I have a very plain and generic mouse that came bundled with my work issued PC. It's functional, but hardly stylish or advanced. It's also very slow to respond at times.

Yippy! I'm getting a new mouse...
But thanks to Collective Bias, I was given the opportunity to shop for a new mouse as an early holiday gift for myself and I want my purchase to hit every thing on my must have list. Here is my list of what I am looking for in a new computer mouse:

- Works with my Windows 7 work PC, but it would be nice if it also worked with my personal Mac Air computer and with the new Windows 8 OS computers (although we will not be upgrading to Window 8 at work anytime soon).

- Beautiful and Stylish

- Different looking - makes people want to stop and look

The Amazon WindowShop app lets you shop from the comfort of your home
For online shopping, I like to use the Amazon Windowshop app on my iPad so I can window shop from the comfort of my bed. The Amazon WindowShop app allows me to browse the items on Amazon.com in picture format. Just click on a photo and you get all the product details and product reviews. You can also add items to your cart and buy them right inside this app.  I love Amazon because their prices usually beat the prices both in-stores and online.

So let me show you the products that I found that I loved and that can also be gifts for the technology lover on your holiday shopping list.

Logitech Wireless USB Touchpad - $79.99 (list price), $59.99 (Amazon price)

Since I like trying out the newest technology, I was very drawn to the new Logitech Wireless USB Touchpad as a computer mouse replacement and this touchpad is marketed as "Windows 8 touch navigation at its best and fullest."

The Logitech Wireless USB Touchpad basically gives you the feeling that you have a Windows 8 touch screen computer without spending the money to upgrade your old Windows PC.  You can do all the gestures on the touchpad that you would do on a Windows 8 touchscreen computer including 2 finger scrolling, one finger point and click, and three finger swipe to access new apps and two finger pinch to zoom in and out of photos, web pages and documents.

The Logitech Wireless USB Touchpad only works with Windows 8, Windows RT or Windows 7 computers so I cannot use this touchpad with my Mac Air, but it's a nice piece of new technology that any Windows user would be happy to own. Price: $59.99 on Amazon.com

Logitech Wireless Optical Touch Mouse M600 - $69.99 (list price), $38.89 (Amazon price)

The Logitech Wireless Optical Touch Mouse M600 is one beautiful piece of technology. I saw this mouse for the first time while I was shopping at Target and I just fell in love with the design. The mouse just plain looks cool with its smooth surface on top and no visible left/right/scroll buttons. Its design will make heads stop and turn.

The Logitech Wireless Optical Touch Mouse is marketed as having "precise cursor control on virtually any surface" due to its advance optical sensor.   Because it has no buttons, your finger is the scroll wheel.  The only button on this mouse is on the bottom and it is activated by pressing down on the mouse.  Right/left clicking is determined by where your finger is on the mouse surface so the feel will probably take some getting used to.

The Logitech Optical Touch Mouse M600 only works with Windows 7, but there is also a version available for Windows 8 computers. This is a sleek, beautiful mouse that I would love to own. Price $38.89 on Amazon.com.

Logitech Wireless Cube Mouse $69.99 (list price)

When I attended the BlogHer12 conference in New York back in August of this year, I was at the Logitech booth and one of the Logitech employees showed me her Logitech Wireless Cube Mouse - and I got really excited. It looks absolutely nothing like a traditional mouse - because as its name implies, it is shaped like a cube.

As innovation and design goes, this is the clear winner. The mouse is very tiny and you can hide it in the palm of your hand. There is nothing to open or close so there is nothing to break and its size is great for travel. It will definitely make a head or two turn when you take this out to use with your Mac or PC.

The design is so stylish that it would look great with my Mac Air - almost like it was made for it. This mouse also does double duty since when you lift it into the air it automatically changes to presenter mode so you can use it as a pointer for slide presentations.

The Logitech Wireless Cube Mouse is available in gloss black and white and this is definitely a mouse that I would love to own. Price $69.99

Microsoft Arc Touch Mouse - Limited Edition Artist Series $69.95 (list price) $49.95 (Amazon price)

I have been salivating over the Microsoft Arc Touch Limited Edition Artist Series Mice for a while now. I own the original Microsoft Arc Mouse - and I love it. It folds up so it is very easy to carry around and it works with all my Windows PC's and my Mac Air. So when the new Microsoft Arc Mouse debuted, I was interested, but not enough to buy it - until I saw the limited edition designer series.

The new Microsoft Arc Touch Mouse is a thing of true beauty. Where the original Arc Touch Mouse folds into a clam shell for storage, this new mouse folds completes flat to store or carry it around. Then it bends back into an arc for use. Also when you bend it into an arc, the mouse automatically turns on and when you flatten it, it turns off - which really saves your battery.

Oh Joy - Oh Boy is it beautiful
The Limited Edition Microsoft Arc Touch Mouse Artist Series includes two designs that I love. The first one is called "Year of the Dragon" and it celebrates the Chinese New Year with a dragon design that travels up the length of the mouse. The other design that I love is called "Oh Joy" and Oh Boy, it is beautiful. The mouse is white and has a lovely floral design that runs the length of the mouse.

The Limited Edition Microsoft Arc Touch Mouse is a wonderful combination of technology and design that just works, making for a practical yet stylish PC accessory. Price $49.95 on Amazon.com.

THE WINNER!!!!
I am thrilled by every one of the technology products I have profiled in this post and would love to own them all. But of the four, I really, really, really want the Logitech Wireless Cube Mouse. Its hits everything on my list with its head turning innovative design and stylish flair and it works with both PC's and Mac's. I could not hit the BUY button fast enough on this one.

So what do you think of my picks?? Pretty sweet huh? I am sure with innovative and beautiful products like these that I am not the only one who will be getting a new mouse for the holidays ;)

MOVIE REVIEW: The Sessions

The Sessions movie, John Hawkes, Helen Hunt
This movie review for "The Sessions" was written by Guest Blogger Liz Parker...

The Sessions is a unique movie that might not be to everybody's tastes. It's based on the true story of polio survivor Mark O'Brien and his daily life living in an iron lung, which helps him breathe. Although the acting in the film is very good, the subject matter was hard to watch, and there was much nudity throughout as well.

Mark O'Brien (John Hawkes) agrees to write an article for a newspaper about sex and the disabled. He is 38 years old and has never had sex; even though his "parts" work well, he is unable to move his arms, hands, or legs, and in fact is confined to his iron lung most of the time - he can journey away from it only in 3 to 4 hour increments. He is referred to Cheryl (Helen Hunt), a sex surrogate who will work with him on becoming comfortable in his own body and with intimacy with women. Mark confides all this to his priest, Father Brendan (William H. Macy), who says that although the church typically frowns on sex before marriage, in this case "God could make an exception." With Cheryl, Mark is able to get past his initial shyness and inexperience, and when their sessions come to an end they are both sad that they will have to discontinue seeing each other weekly.

John Hawkes was the cult leader in Martha Marcy May Marlene, and is completely unrecognizable here. He does a great job as O'Brien, and Helen Hunt does well, too, although we see a lot of her (full-frontal nudity) throughout the movie. My favorite character was actually William H. Macy as the priest, as he was able to bring some comic relief to the scenes he was in. Moon Bloodgood, too, plays John's assistant, who bathes him and helps him with his day-to-day activities, and Rhea Perlman and Alan Arkin have small roles in the film as well.

Maybe see this movie. Fox Searchlight is known for producing unusual "indie" movies, and this one is no exception: the subject matter in it is often hard to watch and also very sad, near the end. However, I wouldn't be surprised to see Hawkes or Hunt nominated for awards for it, because of that, and I am predicting that other critics give it high ratings, which may in turn propel audiences to go see it.

The Sessions is in theaters now and is rated R with a runtime of 95 minutes. 3 stars out of 5.

MOVIE REVEW: Flight

Flight movie poster Denzel Washington
This movie review for "Flight" was written by guest blogger Liz Parker...

The story in Flight brings to mind that of Sully Sullenberger, who landed a plane successfully in the Hudson River in 2009, saving all of the passengers on board. Now imagine the story behind the man being darker and more twisted, and you get Whip Whitaker, played by Denzel Washington. Whip likes to live life to excess - drink and do cocaine - but he's also an airline pilot. He has a fine record, until one day, that record becomes severely marred; he's a hero, and yet not.

Whip has a routine flight from Orlando to Atlanta, his home, a quick 50 minute or so trip. He and flight attendant Trina (Nadine Velasquez) wake up hungover from their tryst the night before, in an Orlando hotel room, and Whip does a few lines of cocaine to wake himself up. The crew encounters a bit of turbulence in the beginning of the flight, but then Whip steers them into calmer skies. Suddenly, though, the plane starts to malfunction, and it takes all of Whip's training and concentration to land the plane on the ground, crashing into an open field, and turning the plane completely over (vertical) in the process. Six people die, including two of the crew members, but the other 90+ are saved, and Whip is hailed as a hero by the press; until they find out about his drinking habits, and that he may or may not have been drinking the morning of the flight.

My only complaint about this movie is that it was a bit slow in the middle. Denzel is in fine form here, and he makes you root for Whip to beat his alcohol addiction. John Goodman should also receive an Oscar nomination for playing Harling Mays, a hippie friend of Whip's who supplies him with cocaine now and then. Don Cheadle is Hugh Lang, an attorney that the union hires to get Whip acquitted of the criminal charges against him, and he and Bruce Greenwood are the only ones on Whip's side for a while. Nicole (Kelly Reilly) is also a druggie, whose path intersects with Whip's, and Melissa Leo, always a chameleon, plays a woman leading the charges against Whip.

Yes, see this film. It clocks in at around 2 hours and 20 minutes, but the time seemed to fly by (no pun intended), and the flight crash scene at the beginning was one of the most tense and horrific that I've seen in quite a while in a movie. I will be shocked if Denzel doesn't get an Oscar nomination for his role here, and Goodman and Cheadle deserve supporting noms as well. Flight will keep you thinking about it long after you leave the theater, and perhaps might make you pause a minute before getting on another airplane, as well.

Flight is in theaters now and is rated R with a runtime of 139 minutes. 4 stars out of 5.

MOVIE REVIEW: Wreck-It-Ralph 3D + Movie Swag GIVEAWAY - ENDS 11/13 (CLOSED)

Disney has a little something in this movie that everyone in the family will enjoy...

When I first heard about Disney's "Wreck-It-Ralph," I did not have high hopes that I would enjoy the movie since it is based around video arcade games, most of which I had not heard of. My son on the other hand was totally excited to see this movie since he is a true gamer. But in the end, we both enjoyed "Wreck-It-Ralph" because Disney has a little something in this movie that everyone in the family will enjoy.

"Wreck-It-Ralph" is about Ralph (voiced by John C. Reilly) who is the villain in a vintage video arcade game called Fix-It Felix. Ralph's job is to break apart a building full of town's people and then Felix (voiced by Jack McBrayer) comes to save the day. But after 30 years of being the villain, Ralph just wants for once to be the hero. You see all the characters in the video games come out after the arcade closes for the day and interact in each other's worlds and Ralph gets no respect from anyone, not even the characters from other games.

When Ralph decides he is going to earn a medal so he can be a hero and get some respect, he sneaks into the "Hero's Duty" military game to fight evil bugs and win his medal. While basking in the glory of feeling like hero for the first time in his life, Ralph ends up in a space craft that hurdles him out of "Hero's Duty" into the sugary sweet "Suger Rush" game. "Sugar Rush" is a little girl's fantasy car racing game come true with cars, candy and avatars in every shade of pink there is, but this game is no fantasy for Vanellope (voiced by Sarah Silverman) who Ralph meets in "Sugar Rush" when he ends up losing his precious metal.

Vanellope is a "glitch" who is treated like an outcast by all the characters in the "Sugar Rush" game and like Ralph, has no friends. But once Vanellope and Ralph team up, their lives are changed in ways neither of them thought possible.

While "Wreck-It-Ralph" is not the best Disney movie made, it is very enjoyable because is has a little something for every member of the family.

My son loved all the gaming references and the 3D racing scenes in the movie. I loved the storyline of people being able to change their circumstances despite the roles society thinks they should play. And girly girls will love the whole "Sugar Rush" sweetness despite it being a gaming movie.

My favorite scenes of the movie were those involving the character Calhoun (voiced by Jane Lynch from the TV show "Glee"). Calhoun is the leather wearing, Barbie body, tough as nails solider in the "Hero's Duty" game who really stole the movie in terms of comedy. Most parents in the audience could not hold back the laughter from Calhoun's bordering on inappropriate one-liners throughout the movie. We all could tell that Jane Lynch had a hoot with this role.

Overall "Wreck-It-Ralph" is a lovable movie that kids, tweens, teens and adults can enjoy together - and we parents don't often find too many movies like that.

"Wreck-It-Ralph" opens in theaters TODAY and is rated PG.

Save at the Kmart Family & Friends Event Sale on Sunday 11/4

Just print your Kmart Family & Friends Event coupons so you will be ready to save....

When my son was a toddler, there was a Kmart located directly across the street from where I worked. Back then, I was exhausted from learning how to juggle being a mom with the rest of my responsibilities and I was looking for any way that I could to save time on running errands and getting food for dinner.

I had never done much shopping at Kmart at the time, but once I realized that I could buy my son clothes and my food all in one shopping trip I was hooked. And of course before leaving the store, I would shop the end caps for all the bargains. I almost cried when that Kmart closed since I was so hooked on the total shopping experience.

So I was very glad when I recently discovered there is a Kmart close to one of my son's after school activities. Once I went inside, I was pleasantly surprised by how nice the atmosphere is in the store and how easy it was to find my way around.  I also like that Kmart has new partnerships with designers so the merchandise looks very upscale.

And now I have one more thing to like  - the Kmart Family and Friend Event Sale that will happen on Sunday, November 4, 2012. This all day event offers 10% off most things in the store including men's, women's and kids apparel, sporting goods, toys, lawn and garden items, and even groceries.

Just print your Kmart Family & Friends Event coupons so you will be ready to save. And if you have a Sears credit card, you will get an extra 5% in Shop Your Way savings when you use your card on your purchases at Kmart.

So start out your holiday shopping on the right foot this Sunday at Kmart.

Enjoy!

New Winx Club Dolls are "hit" with Little Girls

Guest blogger Valerie Gill and her two daughters give their take on the new Winx Club Dolls based on the hot new animated series on Nickelodeon...

When my two daughters found out that they were going to be receiving brand new Winx Club Dolls to review, they were beyond excited. The girls love to watch the Winx club on Nickelodeon on Saturday mornings.

Winx Club is a modern fantasy adventure series following six fashion-forward best friends (Bloom, Stella, Flora, Musa, Tecna and Aisha) who attend the finest fairy school in all the realms, Alfea College. When trouble arises, the Winx Club transforms into beautiful fairies who use their unique magical powers to fight villains and save the world from evil.

My daughters couldn’t wait to see what the dolls looked like. Here are their thoughts in their own words:

Lydia, age 10, reviewed Aisha. Lydia’s comments: "Aisha is the fairy of wings. I like the doll a lot because of her boots, outfit and hair. My favorite item is the boots!! She looks exactly like the real thing! Great job on designing!"

Leah, age 9, reviewed Stella. Leah’s comments: "Stella is the fairy of the sun. I think the doll is very pretty. My favorite thing about the doll is how she looks. My favorite part about the doll is how you can bend the arms and legs. The wings are really neat, too!!"

As their Mom, I was pleased that the dolls came with a brush since their hair is so pretty. The dolls are very well made and can be posed a number of ways. I also liked that each doll was unique, with different features. My daughters couldn’t wait to open them up and play them and couldn’t put them down!! Both of them thought that wings were very pretty –and they loved that you can take the wings off when you want to change the doll’s clothing.

All in all, these are very nice dolls and I think my daughters will enjoy adding them to their doll collections!

BUY IT
Winx Club Dolls retail for approximately $20 each at stores like Walmart and Target. Winx Club Dolls are also sold online at Amazon.com.

Disclosure: Complementary Winx Club Dolls were provided to facilitate this review. All opinions are those of the reviewers. This post contains an affiliate link.
