REVIEW: Upgrade Your "Drawers" with MALO by Mario Lopez™ #MaLoUnderwear #CBias

Holes no more...

My son is your typical 12 year old boy. He cares nothing about his personal appearance. Left up to him, he would never bath, brush his teeth nor comb his hair. I found out over the Summer that his school shoes had holes in the bottom on them. When I asked him about it, he said it was no big deal since he could still walk in them. When he is at school, I sneak into his closet to make sure there are no holes in any of his clothing since I now know he won't tell me about it if there are any.

Such a cute kid for someone who does not care about his appearance..
Over the summer, my son grew 3 inches so I had to throw out every pair of pants that he had to buy all new ones - so at least I know there are no holes in these new pairs. He also outgrew all his shoes so we had to purchase all new ones - Thank the Lord, the ones with the holes are now in the garbage. So when Collective Bias and Kmart gave me the opportunity to update his threadbare underwear with new pairs by Mario Lopez, I could not say "yes" fast enough.

MALO by Mario Lopez™is a new line of Men’s underwear sold at retail stores including Kmart.  The line consists of T-shirts in packs of 2 and briefs and boxer briefs in packs of 3 in Men's sizes small to extra large.

The MALO display at Kmart is very distinctive
So while my son was at Karate class, I made a side trip over to Kmart to check on the MALO by Mario Lopez™ line in the Men's Fashion Department. I had not been to Kmart in a while, but I was pleasantly surprised by how nice the atmosphere is in the store and how easy it was to find my way around.

This kind of signage would make any woman stop to see what he's selling ;)
Finding the MALO by Mario Lopez™line was very easy since the signage with Mario Lopez "sans clothing" is quite attractive - Kmart must know that women do most of the clothing shopping for men.

MALO prides itself on being anything but ordinary so the the line is accented in bright, unexpected colors like electric blue and purple. But what I like is that the cotton blend fabric is soft and seems quite durable. They also have a nice wide elastic waistband to keep everything in place.

Out with the old..
...in with the new.
When I returned home, I tried to sneak the MALO underwear in the hamper, but my son noticed and asked me what happened to his "comfy" underwear. I did not want to tell him that they were now in the trash with his old school shoes. What I did tell him is that this new MALO underwear will be just as comfy, but without the holes. He may not be too happy now, but he will thank me some day. You know what they say, if he is ever in a accident, his underwear will now not be an embarrassment.

MALO by Mario Lopez™ is available at Kmart at a price of $14.99 per pack.

Who wants to meet Mario Lopez?
For more information on MALO by Mario Lopez™ follow MALO Underwear on Pinterest  and Facebook and follow Mario Lopez on Twitter,  I was just on the MALO Facebook Page and saw that they are having a contest that everyone might want to check out since it involves meeting Mario Lopez.

And be sure to check out my entire MALO shopping experience at Kmart by viewing my photo album on Google+.

Enjoy!

MOVIE REVIEW: Pitch Perfect

This move review for "Pitch Perfect" was written by guest blogger Liz Parker...

When I saw a tweet from actress Elizabeth Banks asking for extras in her film Pitch Perfect last November, I offhandedly mentioned it to a friend of mine who lives in Baton Rouge. My friend jumped at the chance to be an extra, which resulted in this post. It should come as no surprise, then, that I was very eager to see Pitch Perfect more than a month before it was in theaters. Although I didn't see my friend in the movie, the film was definitely worth seeing, and is a mix of "Glee meets Mean Girls meets Bridesmaids," as someone tweeted.

Beca (Anna Kendrick, 50/50) arrives at Barden University as a freshman but doesn't want to be there - she would rather be in L.A. pursuing her dream to be a DJ. Her dad is a professor at Barden so he expects her to take advantage of a free college education there. Her roommate Kimmy Jin (Jinhee Joung) doesn't really like her, yet she accompanies her to the Activities Fair anyways to see what's being offered on campus. The Barden Bellas, an a capella group headed up by Chloe (Brittany Snow, Hairspray) and Aubrey (Anna Camp, The Help), are desperately recruiting singers due to an unfortunate mishap at the A Capella Finals last year, and they ask Beca if she can sing. She blows them off, but later Chloe corners her while Beca is singing in the shower, and asks her to try out for auditions.

Beca of course makes the Barden Bellas, who claim they have significantly "lowered" their image, so to speak, and what follows is her journey in a capella, where she meets Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson, Bridesmaids) and the adorable Jesse (Skylar Austin, Taking Woodstock), who is a member of The Treblemakers, an all-male a capella group at Barden that always wins in competition. Aubrey has made all of the Bellas take an oath to not get involved with any Treblemakers, and Beca starts to find this harder to observe as she gets cloesr to Jesse, who she also works with at the campus radio station.

Rebel Wilson of course steals the show in this film, but that's not surprising because she's awesome in pretty much every movie she's in (including the recent hit Bridesmaids). Anna Kendrick can sing very, very well, and she will wow you with her talents, especially since she's never been in any other singing/dancing films recently. The film was also spot-on when it came to "college life": when I was a student at U of M, there was "Festifall" each year where a capella groups and others would recruit new members, and the "Activity Fair" that Beca goes to reminded me of that.

Yes, see this film, though I will caution you that for some reason there are excessive amounts of vomiting. The film is definitely not perfect: I didn't feel like Beca's father was really needed, since his small role in the movie is mostly to nag her. The chemistry between Beca and Jesse was great, and Skylar Austin is now on my "watch list" for young actors. Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Kick-Ass) also has a few cameo scenes in this film as well. Brittney Snow is best known for Hairspray and John Tucker Must Die, which I really liked, but hasn't been seen much since then, and she proves here that she's definitely still a great actress; her scenes with Anna Camp occurred often, since they are the leaders (and seniors) in the Bellas. If you like singing or watching singing groups even a little bit, you will love Pitch Perfect, and the film proves itself to be highly entertaining.

Pitch Perfect is currently playing in theaters, and is rated PG-13 with a runtime of 100 minutes. 4 stars out of 5.

*Author's Note: We were told that this was NOT the finished print of the film; some images and sound were not completely finished yet.

MOVIE REVIEW: The Perks of Being a Wallflower

This movie review for "The Perks of being a Wallflower" was written by guest blogger Liz Parker...

The Perks of Being a Wallflower may just be one of the best films you see all year, which isn't a surprise considering the author of the novel on which it's based wrote the screenplay and also directed the movie. Having an author adapt his/her novel into a screenplay is common, but to have that author also direct the film is highly unusual, and Stephen Chbosky only had one directing credit to his name (from 1995) before this film. With a talented cast including Emma Watson (sporting an American accent!), Logan Lerman, and Ezra Miller, this movie is one that you can't miss.

The scene is early 1990s Philadelphia, and Logan Lerman plays Charlie, an incoming freshman in high school who has lately been having a tough time. It's alluded that he used to hear voices and "see things," and things got worse after a tragic event involving his best friend in 8th grade. As a 9th grader, he has no friends, even though his sister, Candace (Nina Dobrev), attends the same school as him; she's too busy hanging out with her boyfriend, Ponytail Derek (Nicholas Braun), to introduce Charlie to people. Charlie soon becomes friends with Patrick (Ezra Miller), though, a senior retaking his freshman shop class, and he introduces Charlie to fellow seniors Sam (Emma Watson), Mary Elizabeth (Mae Whitman), and others who aren't afraid to "be different."

Charlie has a major crush on Sam, who ends up being his first kiss; after going to the Sadie Hawkins dance with Mary Elizabeth, however, he finds himself suddenly dating her, which he's not really happy about. Sam is dating an older college guy, meanwhile, and Charlie is afraid to tell her about his feelings. Patrick is secretly dating the school quarterback, because the quarterback has a girlfriend and doesn't want to come out of the closet to his friends. Charlie must navigate through freshman year of high school, but soon finds that life is much happier when you have friends to share it with.

Most people know Logan Lerman from the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, and I thought he did extraordinarily well here; so did Watson, as his friend Sam, and Miller, as the gay artistic friend. Paul Rudd has a small role as Charlie's English teacher, whom Charlie forms a bond with since he loves to read, and Dylan McDermott and Kate Walsh play Charlie's mostly-normal parents. Melanie Lynskey also appears in flashbacks, as Charlie's deceased aunt with whom he shared a secret. I was also pleasantly surprised at Watson's American accent; if you had never seen her in the Harry Potter series, you would have definitely believed she was American, and as the movie went on I began to forget that she used to be Hermione in those films.

Yes, definitely see this movie. I'm guessing fans of the book will love this film as well, though I should reread the novel at some point to compare the two. Everything that happens in the movie could have happened in a real high school, and the last 10 or 15 minutes puts an interesting spin on the film's plot as a whole. I actually wouldn't even mind a sequel to Wallflower, though that won't happen, as I found myself thinking about Charlie long after the movie ended and wondering how he would fare in his sophomore year and beyond. Most people hated high school, yet this film makes you want to relive those days - the friends, the experiences, the ups and downs, and, as Charlie says, the feeling of "being infinite."

The Perks of Being a Wallflower is in theaters now and is rated PG-13 with a runtime of 103 minutes. 4.5 stars out of 5.

MOVIE REVIEW: Won't Back Down

This movie review for "Won't Back Down" was written by guest blogger Liz Parker...

When I was in New York for a blogging conference in August, I had the opportunity to attend a red carpet screening of Won't Back Down. Following the screening, there was a Q&A session with actresses Viola Davis, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Rosie Perez, and the director. I didn't know much about the movie going in to it, other than it was about a failing school system, and I was blown away by both the performances and the quality of the content in it; this film is going to be a serious contender when awards season rolls around.

Jamie (Maggie Gyllenhaal, Hysteria) works two jobs to support herself and her daughter, Malia (Emily Alyn Lind, TV's Revenge). She would like to send Malia to a private school, because her current school is awful, but she can't afford it. Nona (Viola Davis, The Help) works as a teacher - one of the only good teachers, actually - at Malia's school, and has a son. Both Nona and Jamie would like to see the school improved, but the only way to do it is to take control of the school system themselves; it's doable but takes a lot of time and effort. The teachers at Adams Elementary are against this as well, because if they embrace it, it means them losing their tenures (in some cases) and having to leave the teachers union, which protects their jobs - there's no job security if the new school ends up failing. Fellow teacher Michael (Oscar Isaac, Drive) who strikes up a relationship with Malia's mother is hesitant to fully "commit to the cause" because of this. Jamie and Nona must get their proposal accepted and change their school, otherwise there is no hope for their children's education.

Maggie Gyllenhaal does a great job here but it's Viola Davis who really shines, just when I thought she couldn't do any better than she did in The Help. Nona is similar to The Help's Aibileen in some ways, but unlike Aibileen, she speaks her mind to her boss when provoked, and I can't imagine anyone other than Davis in this role. Oscar Isaac and Rosie Perez (Small Apartments) have nice supporting roles in the film as well.

Yes, see this film. I am actually hoping to see it again since I enjoyed it so much the first time, and I hope Viola Davis and/or Maggie Gyllenhaal get some award nominations or recognition for their work in it. The story might be a familiar one - indeed, during the Q&A, a lot of mom bloggers spoke up and told of similar situations in their own lives or at their kids' schools - but the plot of a parent and a teacher working together not only to better their children's school, but to create an entirely new curriculum and environment for it, is one that I don't recall seeing in any recent movies; this qualifies Won't Back Down as being different from others I've seen.

Won't Back Down is in theaters today, September 28th, and is rated PG-13 with a runtime of approximately 120 minutes. 4 stars out of 5.

REVIEW: The @Marvel Avengers BluRay/DVD/Graphic Novel Combo Pack is filled with Fun & Excitement #MarvelAvengersWMT #CBias

The Walmart store displays for The Avenger movie are pretty awesome
My Avengers Family Movie Night was beyond wonderful....

I was really excited when I was invited to a media screening of the movie "The Avengers" when it was first released back in May of this year. But I did not attend the screening because I could not take my son with me - and I knew he would never forgive me if I saw this awesome movie without him.  You see, we have seen all the movies leading up to this epic Avengers tale, from the movie "Thor" to all the "Iron Man" films and of course "The Incredible Hulk" and the awesome "Captain America: The First Avenger."

So I figured we would see "The Avengers" movie after it came out in theaters. But some how, with busy schedules full of sports, summer fun and working, we never got around to seeing it - and my son would remind me at least monthly of that fact.

So I was beyond thrilled when I was given the opportunity from Marvel and Collective Bias to throw a family movie viewing night complete with The Avengers DVD/Blu-Ray/Graphic Novel Combo Pack available exclusively at Walmart and a family size Walmart Deli Marketplace Avengers themed Pizza, both with Augmented Reality Avenger Experiences.

So Much Avenger Fun, it's hard to know where to begin....
Now I will be honest and say that I have never purchased a DVD combo movie pack before. I usually just rent the movie on Amazon for my family to view it from home. But I may have to reconsider how I purchase movie releases for home viewing after all the fun we had with The Avengers DVD/Blu-Ray/Graphic Novel Combo Pack.  There was so much in this pack that it is hard for me to know where to begin with telling you all about it. So I will start at the beginning with the fun you can have in Walmart stores just purchasing the combo pack.

I found this display in the toys section of Walmart that I used with the Avenger Augmented Reality App
Using the app, I can unlock questions to find out if I am like The Hulk and other heroes in the movie
Avenger Augmented Reality begins at your local Walmart store ...
My Avenger adventure began by downloading The Avengers Augmented Reality App for Android and Apple devices. With this app you can interact with the Avenger displays at your local Walmart store to unlock cool activities like taking photos with the Avengers, answering questions to learn which Avenger superhero you are most like and more, and even interacting with the DVD and other movie item packing to see 3D scenes for the movie.

The special Avenger displays at Walmart that work with the Avenger Augmented Reality App are located in multiple departments in the store.  Just a warning that not all stores have all the displays. My local Walmart did not have all the displays to unlock all the questions to find out which superhero I am most like.  I think the Walmart associates may not have fully understood that the displays contain technology to use with the augmented reality game because I found some displays were blocked in by other merchandise.

Even the Avenger DVD Box is cool...
The augmented reality feature that I had the most fun with was the Avenger DVD display where I bought the Avengers BluRay/DVD/Graphic Novel Combo Pack.  The DVD has a code on the front to the box that is used with the Avenger Augment Reality app to view a 3D end-of-world fight scene from the movie. When my son saw this, he declared the Avengers DVD and Augmented Reality App to be "totally cool."

The Avenger themed Walmart Deli Marketside Pizzas are HUGE!!!
After I picked up the Avengers DVD and played with some of the augmented reality displays, I rolled over to the Walmart deli to pickup a pizza for my Avenger family night movie viewing party. Just for the movie, Walmart has three Avenger themed Marketside Pizzas available. This was the first time that I have shopped at the Walmart deli, and I was floored just by the pizza selection.

I choose the Captain America themed Pepperoni Pizza since my son loves pepperoni so much. When I put the pizza in my cart, I could not believe how big it was. I was actually afraid I might not be able to get the box in my frig. And the price was wonderful. I could not believe that a 16" Extra Large Premium Sliced Pepperoni Pizza with a 3 Cheese Blend only cost $7.98.

These Avengers Pizza boxes also have special technology that works with the Avengers Augmented Reality app.  Just like with the Avengers DVD box, the Augmented reality app shows you a very large 3D fight scene from the Avenger movie.

What's not on the Avengers BluRay/DVD/Graphic Novel Combo Pack???
Besides all the augmented reality fun that you can have with just the Avengers DVD box, this combo pack has enough activities available to keep my son occupied for days.  In addition to the movie, there is a gag reel and an original Marvel short movie.

And of course there is the graphic novel that comes with the combo pack.  My son L-O-V-E-S these kind of novels and this one, The Avengers: Season One,  contains 100 pages of all color comics.  I have paid as much as $10 for similar graphic novels. After I brought the combo pack home, he spent the rest of the evening just reading the Avenger novel.

You cannot have a movie night without Good Food...
So our movie night started with the great Walmart Marketside pizza, which was so big, I had to cut it in two before I cooked so we would have not lots of pizza left over.  I was so in love with the pizza that I took some for my lunch the next day.  I had no idea Walmart made such great pizza.

The Movie is Wonderful!!!
The Avengers movie picks up where the other Avenger super hero movies left off. Captain America (Chris Evans) has awaken from his 70 years of being frozen in ice to learn how to cope in a totally different world. Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr) has built his huge headquarters overlooking the city and needs some downtime to spend with his lady love. The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) is trying to stay "zen" by helping other people in third world countries with his medical skills. And Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is still reigning as king on his planet while mourning the death of brother Loki. But what no one knows is that the evil Loki (Tom Hiddleston) is very much alive and plotting to take over the Earth that his brother has sworn to protect.

All the Avenger movies now merge into one with original characters returning from each movie to fight to protect the Earth.  But the leaders of Earth are afraid of the Avengers and are planning their own way to get rid of them for good. The movie follows all the twists and turns of the Avengers trying to work together while never trusting each other and then ends with one of the most spectacular fight scenes in the history of super hero movies.  We loved every minute of this movie.  And if you watch the movie all the way to the end, pass where you think the movie ends, you will find out this movie is setup for a sequel - YES!!!

Check it out for yourself at Walmart...
My son and I thoroughly enjoyed our Avenger experience. Marvel's partnership with Walmart for the Avengers augmented reality app is great, but Walmart needs to have their associates to do a much better job with making the displays easy for people to interact with them. The Walmart Marketside Pizza was delicious and I would never have thought to check-out the Walmart Deli had it not been for this experience. The Avengers Combo Pack with the DVD, Blu-Ray and Graphic Novel that is sold exclusively at Walmart is a great combination for Avengers fans since you cannot beat getting all this great content in one purchase.

There will be special Avengers Character Appearances in select Walmart stores on Saturday, September 29, 2012 so contact your local Walmart to see if your store is part of this promotion.

Check out more about The Avengers by following Marvel on Twitter and Facebook.

And be sure to check out my entire Avengers DVD shopping experience at Walmart by viewing my photo album on Google+.

Enjoy!

TECH: Get 35% off Polaris Office for iPad/iPhone for a Limited Time

Create MS documents on your iPad with the same flair as those made using MS Office on the PC...

Before I bought my iPad, I read many articles about what experts thought was the best use of this now iconic tablet.  Most thought the iPad's sweet spot is entertainment.  You know, hooking up to iTunes to watch videos, listen to music, read magazines - and of course to play lots of games.  But when I bought my iPad, I was looking for more than just pure entertainment.  I also wanted to use it for office work when needed.  And in my office, Microsoft Office is king.

Now I can tell you right now that I am no expert on Microsoft Office documents.  I am more a viewer of Powerpoint, Word and Excel documents than a master creator.  But since you never know when you might have a need to tweak a PowerPoint slide deck or change a value in an Excel spreadsheet, having a good app on my iPad that gives me the ability to view and edit MS Office documents is a plus. And I have found the app that I needed with Polaris Office.

The Polaris Interface is clean and simple to use
With Polaris Office, I can now view, create and edit any MS Office document right on my iPad.  The interface for Polaris Office looks like the one that I am used to on the MS Office application on my work PC so the learning curve with this app is minimum.  Actually the Polaris Office interface is better because it is very clean and easy to use.

I access all my files from the cloud using Dropbox on all my devices and Polaris Office integrates with Dropbox seamlessly.  Polaris Office is great for simple actions like using the iPad as a viewer for a Powerpoint slide presentation since the app is even good at building out slide animations. And Polaris Office is also good for making and changing presentations right on the iPad.

I can download files from Dropbox right into Polaris Office
To test out the app, I took some existing Powerpoint slides that I used during a presentation that I gave on blogging and downloaded the slides from my Dropbox to Polaris Office on my iPad.  I decided to add a new slide to the end of the deck and I did that easily using the "+" button at the bottom of the screen. And the new slide had the same blue and orange background theme as the other existing slides.

Updating an existing Powerpoint presentation is easy using Polaris Office
I then added an image from my iPad photos on the new slide easily by just touching the "+" button at the top of the screen. I was then able to move the photo around and resize it as needed and then add a text box.

Additional Features...
In addition to Dropbox, Polaris Office also integrates with other cloud services including Box and Google Docs.  And if you want to create MS documents on your iPad, Polaris Office comes with 15 templates, 18 2D/3D charts, and 80 various figures so you can make documents with the same flair as those made using MS Office on the PC.

Polaris Office is compatible with iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and require iOS 5 version or later.  The app also supports Korean, English, Japanese, Spanish, French, German and Chinese.

LIMITED TIME SAVINGS!!!
If you want to try out Polaris Office, this is a good time to purchase the app. For a limited time, the app is $12.99 instead of $19.99, which is a savings of 35%.

Disclosure: I was compensated for my time to review this application. I also received a complementary iTunes download code for the app to facilitate this review.  All opinions are my own.
