FREE Food, Eye Exams, Kids Games & more at 2nd annual Shield on the Field Celebrity Classic Softball Game 9/29

The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit and News/Talk 760 WJR will host a friendly competition with the second annual Shield on the Field Celebrity Classic softball game on Saturday, Sept. 29 from noon to 3 p.m.

The celebrity softball game is free to the public, and is a prelude to the 26th annual Salvation Army Bed & Bread Club Radiothon hosted by news/talk 760 WJR in February 2013.

The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit and local celebrities and business and civic leaders including:· Bill Emerson, Quicken Loans CEO· Dick Purtan, Legendary Detroit radio host· Sponge, Detroit rock band · Mike Lodish, NFL football legend· John Wharton, former Detroit Red Wings trainer· Jeff Morton, former Grand Prix driver· Mark Hackel, Macomb County Executive· Tony Wickersham, Macomb County Sheriff· Eric Smith, Macomb County Prosecutor· Blaine Fowler and Dana Lundon of 96.3 WDVD’s “Blaine and Allyson in the Morning”· Bob Woldyk, ESPN’s Softball 360· Jack Aronson, CEO of Garden Fresh Salsa,· Syma Chowdhry, WWJ TV morning host· Jonathan Orr, former NFL player· Members of Wayne State University’s baseball team· David Melkonian, United Healthcare In addition, legendary Motown recording artist Martha Reeves will sing the National Anthem and Deputy Mayor of Detroit Kirk Lewis will throw the honorary first pitch.

In addition to the softball game, Shield on the Field will include FREE games, FREE face painting, FREE bounce houses and more sponsored by United Healthcare, Garden Fresh Gourmet and Old Orchard Juice. The Salvation Army Bed & Bread trucks will also be present serving FREE food and beverages compliments of Garden Fresh Gourmet.

Clark Park will also feature the 2nd annual Health and Wellness Festival sponsored by the Congress of Communities. The Salvation Army will join over 35 other vendors in providing the community with information about social services, FREE eye exams, blood pressure checks and more.
