Downtown Milford Open House features FREE Santa Visits, Choirs & Music 12/1 5:45pm

Downtown Milford Open the Doors on Local Holiday Shopping

Christmas Open House event on Dec. 1 celebrates with carolers, Santa and a donation drive for local families in need

Feeling the urge to shop local this season? The Village of Milford is transformed into a winter wonderland this time of year, filled with dozens of delightful, one-of-a-kind shops and restaurants decked out for the holidays in this friendly and fabulous downtown.

Experience the magic of Milford on Thursday, Dec. 1, during the Village’s annual Christmas Open House, a Norman Rockwell-inspired hometown Christmas shopping experience throughout downtown’s Main Street from 5:45 to 9 p.m.

Choir groups and strolling musicians will walk the streets singing holiday songs throughout the evening and Santa Claus will arrive at 6 p.m. on a fire truck to spread holiday cheer in Center Street Park.

After his arrival, Santa Claus will remain for FREE visits and photos from 6 to 9 p.m. in downtown Milford's Village Center Mall (400 N. Main), located on Main Street at Center Street.

Santa returns to Milford on additional Thursday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. through Dec. 22, and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., through Dec. 17.

Open House visitors are encouraged to bring a canned/dry food donation for local nonprofit, Community Sharing, which provides food and other social services to local families all year. Upon donation, they will receive a glow stick that will light the way during the festive holiday caroling.

Nostalgic carriage rides will also be offered throughout the evening. Carriage ride cost is a donation to Community Sharing.

The real stars of the evening of course, are the downtown Milford merchants, with many serving up homemade holiday treats to customers all evening. Visitors are encouraged to avoid the malls and get their shopping done local, grab a bite to eat at any one of the many restaurants in the Village, and enjoy the evening.

“Milford is a beautiful downtown destination all year round, but especially during the holidays,” said Ann Barnette, executive director of the Milford Downtown Development Authority. “There’s a true sense of community here, whether you’re a local resident or experience Milford for the first time. Our retailers really go all out to welcome everyone and experience an old-fashioned Christmas celebration while supporting local businesses. Our retailers and restaurants have something for all budgets and tastes.”

Enjoy!
