Deadline extended to nominate your community for a FREE DSO concert - ENDS 5/31

There is still time to nominate your community for a FREE DSO concert ...

The Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO), in partnership with the DTE Energy Foundation, is happy to announce that the deadline to nominate a venue in your community for a FREE “DTE Energy Foundation Presents, The DSO in your Community” concert next season has been extended. The Deadline for nominations, previously scheduled for May 21, 2012, is now May 31, 2012 at 5 p.m.

About DTE Energy Foundation Presents, The DSO in your Community
Venues, organizations, schools, places of worship, community centers, etc. are invited to nominate themselves to host a free community concert by the DSO.

Nominations are due by 5 p.m. Thursday, May 31. Beginning June 5, the public will be able to view the nominations online and post supporting comments. Venues to receive performances will be selected by a panel of distinguished professionals including Michael Chriss, Director of Regional Relations DTE Energy; Kareem George, Managing Director of Community Programs, DSO; Maud Lyon, President, Cultural Alliance of Southeast Michigan; Kenneth Wayne Thompson, Assistant Dean, College of Musical Arts, Bowling Green State University; Robert Williams, Principal Bassoon, DSO.

For more information or to submit a nomination, go to www.dso.org/dtemusic. Venues selected to host the concerts will be announced on June 18. Concerts will be held September 19-22.

One nominee will receive a full DSO residency during the 2012-13 season: programming such as chamber music performance, senior engagement concert, school visit, hospital performance, library visit, etc in addition to the free community concert. Additionally, DSO will make best efforts to engage every nominee during the 2012-2013 season with some musical offering.

Eligibility for selection will be based on the following criteria (outlined fully at www.dso.org/dtemusic):

• Venue within a 45-mile radius of Orchestra Hall (3711 Woodward Ave., Detroit)
• Venue appropriate to accommodate a full orchestra with a stage/performance area minimum 50’ x 40’
• Fully accessible venue meeting all ADA requirements, including ample and convenient parking

• Venue/facility donated for the free DSO community concert

• Audience capacity of 400+ and secured by the nominee

• Compelling narrative – how would a free DSO community concert impact your community? (150 words or less)

• Ability to co-promote the event

• Up to four (4) letters of support representing diverse cross sections of the community (community/civic leaders, business leaders, students, community members at large)
