FREE $25 credit for opening a Serve® by American Express Prepaid Card - ENDS 1/17

The Serve by American Express Prepaid Card is worth checking out...especially when is comes with FREE money

Back on September 29th, I was reading one of my favorite bloggers, Zippy from ChampagneLiving, and found a way to make an easy $25. She had just posted that American Express and Verizon Wireless have teamed up for a new Prepaid Card called "Serve" and they are giving everyone that signed up by September 30th a $25 promotional credit.

I signed up and I received my $25 credit immediately
To get the $25 credit, you have to open an account and tie it to your Bank Account, Credit or Debit Card and then transfer $25. I decided to try it out and it worked. I thought I would have to wait 30 days for the $25 credit to be added to my account, but I got it immediately as you can see the photo above.  When my new Serve Card came in the mail, I went straight to the gas station to put $50 worth of gas in the tank of my car. That extra $25 really came in handy.

Another Opportunity for a $25 Credit
I figured that American Express would offer the $25 Signup Credit again and I was right. Everyone can receive a $25 account credit when you sign up for a new Serve® account and make a one-time load of $25 or more through January 17, 2013.

Serve Card comes with some nice Benefits
The Serve Card also comes with some nice benefits for the cardholder, the best of which I think is FREE Roadside Assistance. This benefit includes FREE towing, winching, jump starts, flat tire change when spare is available, lockout service when key is in vehicle and delivery of up to two gallons of fuel. These services are available regardless of mileage from primary residence when traveling within the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. So if you are not already paying for roadside assistance, getting it for FREE on the Serve Card is a nice perk.

WHAT'S THE CATCH?
We know that no one gives away free money without a catch. I read all the fine print and discovered American Express is only waiving fees on the Serve Card until March of 2013, then you will be charged a fee to load money on the card, much like all the rest of the prepaid cards that you can buy at places like the checkout line at Target or Walmart. Fees are really the only way companies can make money on prepaid cards.

So if you signup, make sure you spend your $50 before then and if you are not loving the card, close your account.
