FREE Rockin' on the Riverfront Concert Series continues on 8/3 with Lou Gramm of Foreigner

Lou Gramm will take the stage at 9pm on the Detroit Riverfront
Lou Gramm to make Detroiters Hot Blooded at Chevrolet Rockin’ on the Riverfront...

The 2012 Chevrolet Rockin’ on the Riverfront concert series welcomes the voice of a generation and one of the most recognizable performers in music today, Lou Gramm of Foreigner to the GM Riverfront stage on August 3. The concert presented in partnership with Detroit’s Classic Rock Station 94.7 WCSX-FM and the new Soft Rock 105.1 FM will rock the riverfront stage starting a 7:30p.m.

As the vocalist on 20 Top 40 singles, Lou Gramm is in a class of his own. He exploded onto the international music scene with Foreigner’s chart topper, “Feels Like the First Time” in 1977, and continued to rock the charts with songs like “Cold as Ice,” and “Long Way From Home.” By the release of their second album, Foreigner’s self-titled debut record had gone quadruple platinum. Over the next decade the band continued with an endless string of Top 10 hits, including “Hot Blooded,” “Double Vision,” “Head Games,” and one of the biggest hits of all time, “I Want to Know What Love is.”

Gramm continued rocking the charts after he left Foreigner in 1988, launching two solo albums Ready or Not and Long Hard Look, which also featured chart toppers, “Midnight Blue” and “Just Between You and Me.”

“I am enormously proud of this, and the music I have made with Foreigner,” said Lou Gramm. “I am at a point in my life where I can really enjoy the result of my many years of hard work. I am having fun now, for the first time in a long time.”

WCSX’s own Steve Kosten Band will open the evening at 7:30 p.m., and Lou Gramm will take the stage at 9 p.m.

Rockin’ on the Riverfront offers more than free concerts in its 2012 summer season spanning six consecutive Friday evenings that began July 13. Located in the heart of the city, between the GM Renaissance Center and Detroit River, the event has become a summer destination for dining and entertainment in Detroit. Upcoming shows include: The Sweet & The Tubes on August 10; Mark Farner of Grand Railroad and Marshall Crenshaw on August 17.

Admission to the concerts is always free and no advance tickets are necessary. Viewing space is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets. In addition, boaters on the Detroit River are welcome to anchor near the riverfront and enjoy the shows from the water.

Fans are invited to watch FOX2 in the Morning every week to enter a FOX2 EXPOSED contest for a chance to win a VIP prize package, which includes two (2) VIP access wristbands and lanyards with front row seats, dinner for two (2) at Andiamo Detroit Riverfront in the Rockin’ on the Riverfront VIP section (the evening of the concert only), overnight accommodations for two (2) at The Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center (the evening of the concert only), free parking in the Beaubien Garage located on Beaubien Street (the evening of the concert only) and a band meet-and-greet (if available). To enter, access the online contest entry form on the MyFoxDetroit.com and follow instructions. Questions for the Lou Gramm contest will be read on Monday, July 30.

The 2012 Chevrolet Rockin’ on the Riverfront concert series is sponsored in partnership with Detroit Classic Rock Station 94.7 WCSX-FM, the new Soft Rock 105.1 FM, Volunteer Energy, Belle Tire, Quicken Loans and WJBK FOX2.

NEW to DVD: Children's Hospital: The Complete Third Season

Does comedy imitate our outrageous lives?

Children's Hospital is known to be one of the most outrageous shows on air today because of the senseless staff at Children's Hospital. The Children's Hospital doctors are so outrageous that it's impossible not to smile at some of the situations that they get into.  Sometimes I just find myself thinking - How do the writers come up with this stuff?

They say that art imitates life and I know I have been in some comical situations in my life, but nothing like the situations that happen on this show.

The courageous men and women of Childrens Hospital – brilliant, egotistical, nymphomaniacal doctors all – do whatever it takes to save sick kids’ lives whether they deserve it or not. Led by resident clown doctor Blake Downs (Rob Corddry), the CH team will disrobe, do Ecstasy, donate organs (except for the important one), or set up digs in a hospital bathroom.

Show creator Corddry (The Daily Show with Jon Stewart) stars with series regulars Malin Akerman (27 Dresses), Lake Bell (Boston Legal), Erinn Hayes (Parenthood), Rob Huebel (The Descendants), Ken Marino (Party Down), Megan Mullally (Will & Grace), Henry Winkler (Happy Days) and a slew of celebrity drop-ins.

BUY IT!
If you like your comedy more on the outrageous side, then you will be happy to know that Children's Hospital: The Complete Third Season was just released on DVD on July 24, 2012.

Now you can get all your favorite Children's Hospital episodes on one DVD.  Let the comedy of life begin...

Enjoy!

TECH: Keep things Private in a Public, Digital World with FREE OutMyWindow™ App

What kinds of photos are you afraid to share online?

It seems that everyone is posting photos online these days.  From kids to grandparents, people are sharing their moments using all kinds of online social media tools including Facebook, Twitter, and  Instagram.

But while most of my friends are fine with sharing photos with their huge social networks, I still have friends who are totally uncomfortable even having one photo of their kids online. Even though I use social media everyday, I still have tons of photos that I refuse to put online.

That is why new services like OutMyWindow are being used by people who are looking for more control over who sees their online photos. I personally have tons of school photos of my son and his friends that I have not shared online and using OutMyWindow would be a great way to share them easily online with just my immediate family and friends.

Out My Window is a FREE online photo sharing service that allows you to capture all your precious moments and easily delegate who gets to see them. Out My Window has a camera app that works with iPhone®, iPad®, iPod touch® and Google TV™.

REVIEW: Mom Blogger Day at Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky, OH

Cedar Point has something for everyone in the family...

Have you ever said "Yes" so fast to an offer that it made your own head spin?  Well that is what happened when I got an offer from The Mom Blogger Club to attend Mom Blogger Day at my favorite local amusement park - Cedar Point in Sandusky, OH.

I have been making a yearly trip to Cedar Point since I was a kid and I took my own son for the first time back in 2008. Cedar Point has one of the biggest collection of roller coasters in North America, so if you are a roller coaster lover, this is the amusement park for you.

Photo from 2008 during my son's 1st visit to Cedar Point
My son proved back on his first trip to Cedar Point in 2008 that he is a true "ride warrior" so we both share a love of the big coasters. One of our favorite is the Millennium Force which goes straight up and down at 93 miles a hour and gives one of the longest and smoothest rides of all the roaster coasters at Cedar Point.

This year, my son is tall enough to ride The Mantis which is a standing roller coaster that goes upside down so many times that I lost count. Although the Mantis was cool, my favorite ride for years has been Sky Hawk, which is a giant swing that swings you 120 feet in the air at 70 miles per hour (very cool).

This trip, we made sure to ride The Windseeker, which takes the traditional swing ride and moves it 301 feet into the air giving you a smooth ride with a wonderful view of the entire park.

Even though Cedar Point is known for roller coasters, the park still has tons of other attractions that the entire family will love. There are lots of traditional carnival rides and games. And to cut down on walking, you have the option of taking a nice train ride or a sky ride through the park.

My son loved the lunch that Cedar Point provided. I loved the shade :)
There are a number of properties with overnight accommodations attached to the park in addition to a beach. And Cedar Point treated all the moms and our families to nice relaxing lunch near the beach attached to The Breakers Hotel. Since it was very hot during out visit, it was wonderful to eat great food under some shade while getting a view of the beach and the water sports.

Peanuts Rule!!!
Disney has Mickey Mouse and the gang and Cedar Point has the Peanuts gang as the park mascots. So when you go, make sure to have your camera out for meet-and-greets with Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Linus, Franklin, Lucy, Sally and all the rest of the Peanuts gang.

Party with Charlie Brown and Snoopy!
Make sure you stay for the daily Peanuts Celebration at 5pm where all the characters sing, dance and party for a 15-20 show.  And after the show, you can walk right over to the Snoopy On Ice Show which has always been a family favorite.

It was very hot during our visit so the kids decided to ride Shoot the Rapids to cool off.  Water rides are not my thing, but I was told the ride was worth the wait.  I found a shady tree and a cool beverage while waiting for them :)

Even with the heat, and an unexpected downpour at the end of the day, we loved our visit to Cedar Point for Mom Blogger Day. Cedar Point even treated us to gift bags on our way out of the park.  The kids declared the day "The Best Ever" and I would have to agree.  If Cedar Point does Mom Blogger Day again, I want to be first on the list.

Enjoy!

Disclosure: I was invited to Cedar Point for Mom Blogger Day. I and my family and friends received complementary admission, lunch and gift bags. We paid for transportation, parking and any additional food. I have been loving Cedar Point since I was my son's age and all opinions are my own :)
