MARCH 4—ARGO (2012) -REVIEW - In 1979, six American embassy workers in Iran escape to the official residence of the Canadian Ambassador when the embassy is overrun by Iranian revolutionaries. CIA exfiltration expert Tony Mendez (Ben Affleck) devises a daring plan to get them out: create a phony Canadian film project looking to shoot in Iran and smuggle the Americans out as its production crew. With the help of some trusted Hollywood contacts, Mendez creates the ruse and proceeds to Iran to carry out the mission; however, time is running out with the Iranian security forces closing in on the truth while both his charges and the White House have grave doubts about the operation themselves. MARCH 11—SKYFALL (2012) - REVIEW - When James Bond's (Daniel Craig) latest assignment goes gravely wrong and agents around the world are exposed, MI6 is attacked, forcing M (Judi Dench) to relocate the agency. These events cause her authority and position to be challenged by Gareth Mallory (Ralph Fiennes), the new Chairman of the Intelligence and Security Committee. With MI6 now compromised from both inside and out, M is left with one ally she can trust: Bond. 007 takes to the shadows, following the trail to the mysterious Silva (Javier Bardem), whose lethal and hidden motives have yet to reveal themselves. ALFRED HITCHCOCK FESTIVAL—APRIL 29, MAY 6 & 13
Join the Dearborn Main Library for three weeks of films celebrating The Master, Alfred Hitchcock. On April 29, we will screen Hitchcock from 2012, starring Anthony Hopkins as the famed director as he films one of his masterpieces, Psycho. On May 6 and May 13 we will screen two of Hitchcock’s most thrilling films.
APRIL 29—HITCHCOCK (2012) - Plagued by both a reckless ego and nagging self-doubt, Hollywood legend Alfred Hitchcock (Anthony Hopkins) becomes obsessed with a grisly murder story that the studios won't back. Determined, he risks his reputation, his home and even the love of his wife Alma (Helen Mirren), as he sets out to make the film. Ultimately, Hitch wins Alma over, and the two collaborate to create the enduring masterpiece Psycho. (Rated PG-13, 98 min.)
MAY 6—REAR WINDOW (1954) - A wheelchair-bound photographer (James Stewart) spies on his neighbors from his apartment window and becomes convinced one of them has committed a murder. Also starring Thelma Ritter, Raymond Burr and an impossibly beautiful Grace Kelly. (Not rated, 112 min.)
MAY 13—NORTH BY NORTHWEST (1959) - A hapless New York advertising executive (Cary Grant) is mistaken for a government agent by a group of foreign spies, and is pursued across the country while he desperately searches for a way to survive. Featuring several iconic moments including the crop-duster chase and a foot pursuit across Mount Rushmore, as well as a thrilling Bernard Herrmann score. MAY 20—ON THE WATERFRONT (1954) - Marlon Brando delivers a legendary performance as Terry Malloy, a former boxer turned longshoreman who finds himself in a crisis of conscience involving his corrupt union bosses.
