Detroit Institute of Arts offers FREE Admission to ALL visitors on 5/18 for Art Museum Day

Sunday, May 18th is also last day to use Samurai: Beyond the Sword coupon...

If you live in Wayne, Oakland, or Macomb county, then you know that residents in those counties already get FREE admission to the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA). But for one special day, the DIA is offering FREE general admission to ALL visitors on Sunday, May 18, in honor of Art Museum Day.

For the fifth year, the Association of Art Museum Directors (AAMD) is uniting its membership to celebrate Art Museum Day. Many AAMD members will offer free or reduced admission, educational programs, and/or discounts on or around May 18. AAMD also encourages museum visitors to use social media to share their Art Museum Day experiences with their museum and with their social networks.

AAMD’s Art Museum Day coincides with International Museum Day, organized annually around the world by the International Council of Museums. Art Museum Day is an opportunity to focus attention on the role of art museums in North America as part of a larger worldwide initiative.

Sunday May 18th is also the last day to use a $4-off coupon for adult tickets to the DIA exhibit "Samurai: Beyond the Sword", available at http://bit.ly/SamuraiCoupon. The exhibition explores artworks that project the image of the samurai not only as fierce warriors but also as patrons of the arts and sophisticated artists and scholars. This is a ticketed exhibition. For more information, visit www.dia.org.
