REVIEW: Cedar Point Amusement Park's New Roller Coaster - The Gatekeeper #CPMomBlogger

The New Gatekeeper is a smooth piece of steel that cuts like a knife for one awesome ride...
The unofficial start of summer for my family happened on Saturday, May 18th for Mom Blogger Day at Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky, OH.

My family has been making the 2 hour drive to Cedar Point every year since I was a kid and I started bringing my son to Cedar Point back in 2008. Cedar Point has one of the biggest collection of roller coasters in North America, so if you are a roller coaster lover, this is the amusement park for you.

For the second year in a row, Cedar Point invited local mom bloggers and their families as special guests with free admission and a group lunch at Cedar Point's Coral Courtyard located near the beautiful beachfront.  We totally enjoyed Cedar Point's Mom Blogger Day 2012. And this year's was even better.

The Gatekeeper is now my son's favorite roller coaster...
This year the special part of Mom Blogger Day was getting to ride Cedar Point's newest roller coaster - the Gatekeeper.

The Gatekeeper is a fiberglass and steel designed roller coaster that delivers 2 minutes, 40 seconds of the smoothest, most exciting ride of any roller coaster I have been on to date. As much as I love the smooth ride of Cedar Point's Millennium Force roller coaster, I love the Gatekeeper even more.

The Gatekeeper lifts you 170 feet in the air for a vertical drop of 164 feet - but with a twist.  The Gatekeeper has wings that make you feel like you are flying like Super-man. Once riders crest the top of the first lift hill, the coaster train will rotate 180 degrees to the right, turning riders upside down before plummeting toward the ground at speeds of more than 65 mph - So Sweet!

In addition, the ride does a Zero-G-Roll which takes riders through two support towers that dominate Cedar Point’s new Main Entrance. The entire front of the park was totally redone to add these new towers so it seems like you are going to end up the parking lot before you turn back toward the park to fly over guests that are entering the park below.

I love roller coasters with a smooth ride and the Gatekeeper cuts as smooth as a knife in butter.  I loved every turn, upside down roll and twist. When the ride was over, my son and I declared the Gatekeeper the coolest ride at Cedar Point. We wanted to ride it again, but the with a 90 minute wait, we decided we would just have to come back and do it again on another day.

I loved the Wicked Twister - my son thought he was going to die...
My second favorite ride at Cedar Point was the Wicked Twister. While this ride is not new to Cedar Point, it was our first time riding it. Usually the line is very long. But with everyone in line for The Gatekeeper, the line for the Wicked Twister was only 15 minutes long.

The Wicked Twister takes off so fast that you most certainly leave your brain back on the ground as you go back and forth climbing two twisting towers at breakneck speed.

I loved the Wicked Twister. My son said he felt like he was going to die. So while he won't ride it again, I certainly will. But while the Wicked Twister is cool, the Gatekeeper still is the coolest of the cool.

We bonded - over roller coasters :)
My son and I had a blast at Cedar Point.  There is nothing like bonding while riding roller coasters. So don't you wait until the end of Summer to make your way to Cedar Point. If you are a roller coaster fan, the Gatekeeper and all the other awesome rides at Cedar Point are totally worth the trip.

Enjoy!

Disclosure: I was invited to Cedar Point for Mom Blogger Day. I and my family and friends received complementary admission, parking, lunch and gift bags. We paid for transportation. I have been loving Cedar Point since I was my son's age and all opinions are my own :)
