24th Annual Safety Street at the University of Detroit Mercy

Pounds of Snickers, Milky Way, Hershey, and Twix bars will be handed out to brave little goblins and ghouls visiting University of Detroit Mercy for the 24thd annual “Safety Street.” The fun and safe “trick or treating” environment will be held on Friday, October 25 from 4-7 p.m. in the Student Center Fountain Lounge on the McNichols campus.

Area school children are invited to the FREE event, but it is open to the public as well.

Over 400 neighborhood children from grades K-5 will attend Safety Street this year, dressed in their favorite costumes. UDM students in Halloween attire will distribute candy to the children and also offer free face painting during the event. A best costume contest will be held at 6 p.m. for grades K-5. Register at welcome table.

To prepare for the event, UDM students hold a Safety Street Façade Blowout Party, Oct 24 at 8 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom. Fraternities, sororities and student groups participate in the fun evening. The UDM School of Dentistry participates by giving out free toothbrushes, toothpaste and dental floss. The School of Architecture was the first to establish Safety Street for neighborhood children, but the event soon evolved to include the entire UDM community.
