FREE DSO Concert "Music & Healing" at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital 3/15 RSVP


FREE MUSIC FOR THE BODY AND SOUL

Marking the second year in an innovative partnership, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) and Henry Ford Health System will bring a free community concert titled "Music and Healing" to Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital on March 15. The performance, conducted by Charles Greenwell and located in the Ravitz Foundation Main Atrium, begins at 7 p.m.

Highlights of the all-string program include Tchaikovsky’s Serenade C major for Strings, J. Strauss and J. Strauss Jr.’s Pizzicato Polka, Anderson’s Plink, Plank Plunk; and Copland’s “Hoe Down” from Rodeo for String Orchestra.
Charles Greenwell is the DSO’s Conducting Assistant and serves as host for the Ford ConcerTalks, lively musical discussions which take place one hour prior to all classical series performances. As a conductor he has led the Detroit, Anchorage, Windsor, Ann Arbor and Toledo Symphony Orchestras as well as the Tulsa Philharmonic, among others. He served as a producer for the recordings of the DSO for Chandos Records of England, and was host of the DSO’s national radio broadcast series from 1978 to 1987.

Greenwell is Music Director of the Southern Great Lakes Symphony, Downriver Detroit’s premier classical music organization. In September 2005 he became Music Director of the Birmingham-Bloomfield Symphony Orchestra after serving as Pops Conductor there for 14 years. He holds degrees from Michigan State University and The Royal College of Music in London.
