Here is a highlight of the FREE activities you can do this weekend in the metro Detroit area and beyond:

Starting on Friday and going through Sunday, go on down to Hart Plaza for the FREE African World Festival. This family-friendly festival includes something for all ages - the children’s Watoto Village, the Health is Wealth Pavilion, Generation Next Kingdom, and the Artists’ & Elder’s Villages. There will also be FREE concerts on the main stage everyday, multi times for day.

Also on Friday, the new movie "Lottery Ticket" opens in theaters staring Bow Wow.  Be sure to read my review before seeing the movie.  "The Switch" also opens on Friday so be sure to read this review by guest blogger Liz Parker. And if you are going to see these movies at an Emagine theater, remember to vote for Emagine in the Vote for the Best Contest and you can get $5 off a concession purchase of $5 or more.

On Saturday, go to the FREE Outdoor Concert at 12 Mile Crossing Novi. Billy Brandt and Serana Verlin will be performing so remember to bring a chair and a smile to enjoy this great outdoor concert.

Also on Saturday will be the FREE Workshop: Moving Beyond Junk Food at 1pm at the Detroit Main Library near Wayne State University. This workshop looks at how what we eat every day affects us physically, either promoting or degrading health and well-being. Group discussion will cover nutrition, healthy food choices, food preparation, and options to change the patterns of disease and death surrounding the foods we eat.

Saturday is the last day for Back to School Deals at Staples. These deals start at only one penny.

Also on Saturday, go to Lakeshore in Sterling Heights for their FREE craft workshops for kids. This week the kids will be making homework helpers.

For car buffs, there’s the world’s largest one-day automotive event — the 2010 Woodward Dream Cruise. The event runs 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, August 21, in eight host cities along Woodward Avenue, stretching from Ferndale to Pontiac. Visit www.woodwarddreamcruise.com for more info on the Woodward Dream Cruise.

Sunday is a deal day for Cedar Point tickets. - You can get $34 Cedar Point Tickets for this Sunday only.

Sunday is also the LAST DAY to get 25% off EVERYTHING at Moo.com.  Moo.com rarely has a sale, but I have never seen EVERYTHING on sale before.

Have a wonderful and blessed weekend,
