FREEBIES, GIVEAWAYS & FIREWORKS at Huron-Clinton Metroparks "Salute to America Appreciation Day" 6/11

The Huron-Clinton Metroparks celebrate “Salute to America Appreciation Day,” Saturday, June 11 with FREE fireworks at Kensington Metropark, FREE use of select facilities and special programs. 


A vehicle entry permit is required to enter any Metropark and is only $25 annually for regular admission, $15 annually for seniors, or $5 daily. Special offers and activities to be held on “Salute to America Appreciation Day” are:

Hudson Mills Metropark near Dexter: • Patriotic giveaways 

Huron Meadows near Brighton: Free small bucket of balls at the golf course driving range
• One free hour of rowboat or paddleboat rental on Maltby Lake

Indian Springs near White Lake/Clarkston:Free small bucket of balls at the golf course driving range
• Patriotic giveaways 
 “Salute to America – Colonial Paper Crafts,” at 1 pm, Environmental Discovery Center. Celebrate being an American with some fun patriotic crafts. Make a traditional American wind vane, a stars ‘n’ stripes decorative ball and other fun stuff. While crafting, learn a bit about the significance of these items in our American history. For children in the first grade and up (will need parent’s help). Free. Preregistration required. For more information call 248-625-6640.

Kensington Metropark near Milford/Brighton:• One free hour of rowboat or paddleboat use – must be 18 years of age or older
Free rides on the “Island Queen II” excursion boat from noon to 6 pm
• “Beasts on the Beach,” from 1 pm to 4 pm, Martindale Beach. There is a lot of misinformation about snakes and turtles. Join an interpreter and sort out what is true and what isn’t during this free, ongoing program. For more information, call 1-800-477-3178. 
FREE “Salute to America Fireworks,” 10:10 pm. Come early for this popular fireworks display.

Lake Erie Metropark in Brownstown:Free small bucket of balls at the golf course driving range
 FREE “Muskrat Club – A Fine Fishin’ Day,” at 10:30 am, Marshlands Museum and Nature Center. Kids from 6-12 years of age are invited to join in the Muskrat Club nature and history investigations. This month, we are talking fish – what they are, how they live, and how to catch them. Parents are invited to accompany us on a short trip to the fishing bridge to try our luck. Lower Huron Metropark near Belleville: • Two-for-one Par-3 golf

Metro Beach Metropark near Mt. Clemens:  “Family Fishing Fun,” at 11 am, Nature Center. Bring the kids and “hook” them on this great pastime. Equipment will be provided. For ages 7 and up. Oakwoods Metropark near Flat Rock:• “Summer Canoe Tours,” 10 am, 11:30 am, 1 pm & 3 pm, Nature Center. Enjoy a relaxing, summer trip aboard our 34-ft. “Huron” canoe. Fee: $4 per person. Preregistration required. For more information or to register, call 734-782-3956.
 “Art at Oakwoods,” at 10 am, Nature Center. This month’s theme is weaving. Fee: $5 per person. Preregistration required. For more information or to register, call 734-782-3956.

Stony Creek Metropark near Rochester/Washington Township: • One hour of free bicycle use

• “Strawberries, Ice Cream & Blue Skies Campfire Program,
” at 7:30 pm, Nature Center. The red, white and blue of nature will be the theme of this program. Join us for songs around a campfire and ice cream with strawberry toppings. Wolcott Mill Metropark in Ray Township:
Free small bucket of balls at the driving range
 FREE “Take Me Fishing,” from noon - 4 pm, Historic Center. Kids can learn the basics of fishing. Discover knot tying, lure making, parts of a fishing rod, casting, boat safety, fish identification and water quality. After completing all stations, kids can try fishing in the ponds or the river. Rods will be available for use on a first-come basis. Donations to support the program are welcome. Please call 586-749-5997 to preregister.
