Here is a list of the FREE and low cost activities that you can do in Detroit and beyond this weekend....

Friday is the opening day for the movies "Captain America: The First Avenger" and "Friends with Benefits". But are they any good? Make sure you read the movie reviews by guest blogger Liz Parker before you spend your hard earned money. (NOTE: The reviews lgoes live at midnight EST)

The Walmart Gift Card Giveaway ends Friday at noon.  Be sure to enter to try to win a $25 Walmart Gift Card to help out with your back to school shopping.

It has been hot, hot, hot in metro Detroit this week with temps near 100 degrees.  So the Detroit Science Center is inviting metro Detroiters to stay cool and check out all the museum's fun by offering a special admission price of only $10 per person.  This price includes hundreds of hands-on exhibits, planetarium shows, science demonstrations and a Chrysler IMAX® Dome Theatre film.  This special price is available Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The FREE Rockin' on the Riverfront Summer Concert Series continues Friday on the Detroit Riverfront with "REO Speedwagon".  The FREE music starts at 7:30pm and REO Speedwagon will take the stage at 9pm.

On Saturday, take the kids to the FREE Lowes Build and Grow Workshop where those lucky kids will make their own binoculars.  Make sure you RSVP for this great FREE event.

To celebrate Detroit's 310th birthday, join FREE celebrations across metro Detroit on Saturday and Sunday at Macomb Mall, Northland Mall in Southfield, Fairlane Mall in Dearborn, Westland Mall, and Somerset Mall in Troy.  There is surely at least one party at a mall near you so make sure you go and enjoy the FREE fun.

Sunday is FREE Admission day to the Detroit Institute of Art (DIA) for residents in the cities of Manchester and Milan as part of the Museum’s Inside Out Project.  Each city resident of Manchester and Milan can get up to 4 general admission tickets by showing their drivers license or State ID.

The weather has been very warm lately so why not cool down this weekend with a buy one get one FREE coupon for McDonalds Frozen Strawberry Lemonade, Frappe, or Real Fruit Smoothie. Yummy and half price :)

Sunday is the last day to use this Macys Wow Pass to get an extra 20% off sale and clearance clothing. Now that is my kind of shopping.

... and remember that all active military personnel and their families get FREE Admission to the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) thru Labor Day. The DIA offers an array of great art and activities during the summer. The popular exhibition It’s a Zoo in Here! Prints and Drawings of Animals is on view, and on June 29 a new installation of puppets was put on display.

Have a wonderful and blessed weekend,
