Here is a highlight of the FREE and low cost activities you can do this Mother's Day weekend in the metro Detroit area and beyond:

On Friday, a number of movies are having their opening day including "Thor" and "Something Borrowed".  But are they any good?  Don't waste your hard earned money until you read our movie reviews by Detroit Movie Critique Liz Parker.

And if you are taking mom to the movies this weekend at an Emagine Theatre, go to their Facebook page to download a coupon for a FREE popcorn.

On Friday you can get FREE admission to Cranbrook Institute of Science and Cranbrook Art Museum in Bloomfield Hills, MI. The Institute is free from 5-10pm with the observatory opening at 8:30pm, and Cranbrook Art Museum offers its 2011 Graduate Degree Exhibition free of charge until 9pm.  While you are there, use this coupon for a FREE Starbucks Coffee at the Reflections Café.

Friday is the last day to book your trip to travel by Amtrak Train in their "40 Years of Amtrak" promotion where kids travel by Amtrak train FREE.  Travel must be completed by June 9th.

Friday at 6pm, go to your local Michaels for their The Knack℠ Clay Pot Event Make-It Take-It Craft for Mothers Day. Just purchase a clay pot and your kids will get all the FREE decorations to make the pot into a jewelry holder for Mom. How Sweet!

On Saturday is the FREE "Throne of Fire" Release Party at your local Borders starting at 2pm. Kids ages 8-12 who attend will get a FREE Lego Pharaoh's Quest building set while supplies last.

There is more FREE fun for the kids on Saturday. The Home Depot is sponsoring their Kids Workshop from 9am - noon where they can make mom a tulip planter for Mother's Day.

And Kids can also go to your local Lowes on Saturday where they can build mom a heart flower vase for FREE.

Also on Saturday, your kids can make a FREE Scrapbook Page Make-It Take-It Craft for Mothers Day at your local Michaels.  This event starts at 10am and goes until noon or while supplies last.

Saturday is the last day to order your FREE 8x10 Photo Collage at Walgreen.com. This would make a great FREE gift for mom!

Starting Saturday and going until Monday is the  Opening Weekend at Six Flags Great America Chicago.  Tickets for opening weekend are only $19.81 each. The regular price is $56.99.  Since 6 Flags American Chicago is only a 4 hour drive from Detroit, take advantage of the drop in ticket prices to take the whole family on a road trip.

Sunday is Mother's Day. Hopefully you have bought mom a little "something something" by now, but if not, use my FREEISMYLIFE Mother's Day GIft Guide to pick out a gift. Prices start at FREE - and what could be better than that!

On Sunday, Moms eat FREE at Crave in Dearborn from 4:30pm to 10pm.  Restrictions apply and this FREEBIE is limited to one offer per table.

And on Sunday, Detroit's Better Made Snack Foods "Mother of the Year Contest" ends so hopefully you have submitted your story of a woman who you feel is a great mom. The Mom of the winning entry will receive a sampler box of delicious Better Made Snacks.

Have a wonderful and blessed weekend,
