Living for the (FREE) MLK Holiday Weekend - January 14th - January 17th

Here is a highlight of the FREE activities you can do this weekend in the metro Detroit area and beyond:


On Friday, the movie remake of "The Green Hornet" opens in theaters nationwide.  But is it any good?  Be sure to read my movie review before you buy your tickets.

Also on Friday, Pewabic Pottery’s new exhibit, Contemporary Teapots - Ancient Ancestors, begins with a FREE opening reception from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The show will feature a variety of pieces from 13 different artists.

On Saturday takes your teens and tweens to Oakland Mall in Troy for the Justin Bieber Singing Competition where the winner gets a FREE Trip to L.A..  This event is free and open to the public. Only eligible pre-registrants who receive confirmation, will be allowed to be contestants in the singing competition and compete to win the trip to the premiere. Additional prizes may be given away on-sight to spectators (limited quantity, while supplies last).

On Sunday, go the the East Lansing Meijer store for the FREE Detroit Pistons Meijer Day. Meet Detroit Piston player Rodney Stuckey and get his autograph 2-3 p.m.

Also on Sunday don't forget there will be FREE Admission to the Detroit Historical Museum.  There will be FREE admission to the museum on the third Sunday of every month from now through August 2011. Be sure to go on the docent-led tours of the exhibit "The Streets of Old Detroit" from Noon - 3 p.m.

Monday is the celebration of the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and you can get FREE Admission to the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn where there will be live musical performances and Make and Take activities. And don't forget to explore the  "With Liberty and Justice For All" exhibit and attend the "With Liberty and Justice for All" public symposium.

If you are in Northwest Detroit on Monday, stop by the FREE MLK "Honoring the Dream" Event at Sinai-Grace Hospital. There will be a FREE boxed lunch for the first 100 people to attend.
