Movie Review: Get Him to the Greek

Seriously Outrageous!

On Thursday May 6th, I went to see an advance screening of "Get Him to the Greek" at the Southfield AMC Star Theatre. I received the movie passes courtesy of Universal.

"Get Him to the Greek" is a straight up Rock and Roll story about music lover and record company employee Aaron Green (played by Jonah Hill) who comes up with a wonderful idea of generating tons of money for this record company by having Rock and Roll legend Aldous Snow (played by Russell Brand) perform a one night concert to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of this famous first concert at the Greek theater.  The only problem is that Aldous Snow is a total drug head who has been living in England and self destructing since his last album tanked and this former girlfriend (played by Rose Byrne) decided to tell the world she was leaving him during an interview on national TV.

Aaron is sent to England to bring Snow to LA for the concert by his boss, record producer Sergio Roma (played by Sean "P. Diddy" Combs).  Aaron finds out for himself just how hard it is to get a lonely and conceited Rock and Roll legend to act right and do anything that he is told to do even if it means singing to his adoring fans and generating lots of money.

This movie is a Rock and Roll bro-mance between Aaron and Aldous as they behave badly on two continents and finally "find themselves" dispute Aldous' very bad behavior.  There are cameo appearances from Pink, Christina Aguilera, Katy Perry and many other music stars.  Even Meredith Vieira from The Today Show makes an appearance as herself for a very funny interview segment.  When the chemistry is right between the actors and jokes are on point, the movie is great.  But the movie falls short in that some of the jokes and physical humor fall apart at times and just are not funny.   Also, Sean Combs could do with just a few more acting lessons. But, if you like the world of Rock and Roll and graphic adult humor, you will enjoy this movie.

Just a note to the parents who brought their kids to this movie preview - an "R" rated movie with filthy language, explicit drug use, graphic female and male nudity, bathroom sex, oral sex, and threesomes is totally Rock and Roll, but definitely not appropriate for ten year old children.  This movie is totally outrageous, so parents should leave the kids at home for this one.

"Get Him to Greek" opens in theaters June 4, 2010.
