MOVIE REVIEW: Shrek Forever After in 3D IMAX

The Best Shrek Sequel!

Tonight I and my son went to an advance screening of Shrek Forever After in 3D IMAX at the Henry Ford IMAX theater in Dearborn. We received the movie passes courtesy of Dreamworks.

All the kids at the screening received special gifts - Shrek 4 movie posters along with pairs of green ogre ears (too cute). Also on hand were representatives from Radio Disney who gave prizes to the kids who knew their Disney music and Shrek trivia. After all the prizes were awarded we put on our 3D glasses for settle in for the movie.

In this, the last installment in the Shrek series, Shrek (voiced by Mike Myers) is having a life crisis. He has a wonderful wife, three great kids, and friends who adore him, but he is still not happy. The day-to-day grind of parenthood is getting to him and he misses his careful ogre life from before he settled down with Fiona (voiced by Cameron Diaz). While in an angry mood, he makes a bad deal with Rumpelstiltskin (voiced by Walt Dohrn) and loses everything he loves - including himself. He is lost in the world that would have existed if he was never born and the only way out is to make Fiona fall in love with him again. But Fiona is now a man hating she-warrior battling Rumpelstiltskin for control of Far Far Away land. So Shrek has a hard battle ahead of him to win Fiona's love.

This sequel is the most exciting of the Shrek series. It contains tons of action, great jokes, and wonderful music.  I love that all the old characters are back again along with a new sisterhood of witches and a brotherhood of ogres. And seeing this movie in IMAX 3D just puts the icing on the cake. The fight scenes, flying witches, and chase sequences are just made for 3D. And the IMAX sound system really makes the action even more thrilling. The 3D glasses along with the IMAX sound really makes you feel like you are part of the movie. My son could barely stay in his seat from cheering for the characters and trying to grab the 3D special effects.

Shrek Forever After opens in theaters Friday, May 21, 2010. This movie is the best Shrek sequel, so make sure you take the kids to see it. And 3D IMAX will make the experience even better!
